The Gossip Girl Commercial

Readers have been clamoring for the Gossip Girl commercial, featuring the Aqualung song “Something to Believe In.”

So here it is. Remember: check back every week to sort through our Gossip Girl music library.

Gossip Girl Spoilers: A Look at Episode Three

During our previous round of Gossip Girl spoilers, we have readers a sneak peek into episode two of the show, entitled “The Wild Brunch.”

Now, for those that simply cannot wait, here’s a glimpse into the third episode, “Poison Ivy.”

Ivy week is full of drama, as the teens from Constance Billard and St. Jude’s prepare for a much-anticipated visit from Ivy League college representatives. Meanwhile, Blair uncovers a scandalous secret about Serena… and it most likely have to do with a certain bar stool sex romp.

Dan has his heart and future set on the coveted usher position for the Dartmouth rep, only to be beat out by Nate, who has no interest in the university despite pressure from his controlling father.

Lastly, Jenny (Taylor Momsen) bonds with Serena’s younger brother, Eric, and Rufus must swallow his pride in order to ask Lily for a favor to help his son.

Gossip Girl Notes from the Pilot

It was hard to miss the sex scene between Serena (Blake Lively) and Nate (Chace Crawford) in the pilot episode of Gossip Girl.

At least go in the coat room or something, guys.

Anyway, here are a couple of tidbits/inside jokes from the show many viewers may not have been aware of:

  • The Constance Billard School for Girls is based on The Nightingale-Bamford School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Cecily von Ziegesar, the author of the Gossip Girl books, in which the series is based on, attended this private school.
  • As Dan rushes to catch his ride to school, we see the side of the bus; it has an advertisement with a logo that reads Smallville. This, of course, is another show on The CW.

Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford Comment on Characters, Gossip Girl

With the Gossip Girl series premiere in the books, we have a pretty good sense of what Chuck Bass and Nate Archibald are all about.

But how do the actors portraying these roles feel about their alternative personalities? First, Ed Westwick recently pointed out the obvious: Chuck isn’t so nice.

“He seems to be the dark kind of character, who stands out,” said Westwick, in his native British accent, which he hides for the show. “Chuck is the antagonist. He almost seems bored with life at 17. Maybe he’ll be one of those guys whose grades aren’t that good. But he doesn’t need to try. Perhaps he is the wealthiest (of all of the characters).”

Certified HottieOverall, of course, money is vital to this show. It’s at the center of the teens’ existence. And Chace Crawford says shooting on the Upper East Side has been “pretty intense” because “there are padded silk walls and carved gold door hinges in $30 million mansions. It gets sort of ridiculous.”

But not unrealistic.

“I knew some kids at Pepperdine, whose parents were so busy. The parents were flying around and the nannies are out and the kids get this bizarre reality. The parents own hotels and the workers are not going to say no to the kids. These kids take advantage. It’s an absurd reality.”

Who says these Gossip Girl girls don’t get along?

Celebrating the debut of their new show, (from left) Nicole Fiscella, Jessica Szohr, Blake Lively and Nan Zhang put aside any cattiness for a group snapshot at the Gossip Girl premiere party at New York City club Tenjune on Tuesday.

New York Magazine Grades Gossip Girl

While Josh Schwartz and the Gossip Girl cast want everyone to love their new show, they probably hope native New Yorkers feel especially close ties to it.

After all, like Sex and the City, Gossip Girl uses the Big Apple like a character unto itself.

With that in mind, a writer for New York Magazine watched last night’s season premiere. He took note of which aspects of the show depicted his city realistically, and which were a bit far-fetched. As the article states:

Below is our list of things we found gloriously implausible - and uncomfortably plausible - in last night’s pilot episode, rated on our completely subjective point system:

Pilot PicsThat’s a Bit Rich
Blake Lively as a high-school senior. Seriously, chick has got to be at least 30. What is this? A new season of Strangers With Candy?

• Formal invitations - on paper - are issued for the “Kissing on the Lips Party.” Real kids use Evite.

• Nate: “Do you ever feel like our lives are planned out for us?” 17-year-olds are about as self-reflective as Saran Wrap.

• Blair” “Waldorf” and “Serena Van der Woodsen”? Who has names like that? Oh, yeah. Lead actress Blake Lively and Gossip Girl creator–apocalyptical horsewoman Cecily von Ziegesar

• Scene: Blair and Serena meet at the Palace Hotel, drink martinis up with olives. (”Nooo, we don’t have a lot of private-school kids at our bar,” says Melissa Blair, the hostess at Gilt, the Palace’s bar. [Gilt! Which is a false cognate of the emotion Serena feels about sleeping with Nate! Symbolism!] They have been filming at the Palace though, Blair said. In fact, she saw them filming a scene yesterday. End of parenthetical.)

• Blair, wearing a corset and waiting in a candlelit room for a rendezvous with Nate. Teenage sex is awkward, no matter how much money you wrap it in.

• The kids take over a huge club (that at times looks like the meatpacking district’s Level V and at other times like the sound studio that it is) for a party where prodigious amounts of alcohol is served. Club owners and parents are in the know. There are still LAWS in this city, people.

• Serena and Nate have sex on the bar of the empty Campbell Apartment. Dude, that place is always filled with bankers.

Okay, We’ll Buy It

• Nate and Valmont smoking a joint in Central Park. Who hasn’t?

• Chuck joking semi-seriously about borrowing his dad’s Viagra. Do real teenagers do that? Probably, but ew.

• Attempted date rape. See above re: teenage sex.

• “Dancing on tables at Bungalow.” After its steady decline in recent years, the high-school crowd is right about where that place is at these days.

Gossip Girl Look-Alike: Ed Westwick and Jimmy Fallon

We enjoyed the Gossip Girl season premiere last night.

If you missed any of it, check out our episode guide now. It’s complete with quotes, photos and Gossip Girl music from the opening hour on The CW.

One thing had us distratced during the episode, however: Ed Westwick looks exactly like former Saturday Night Live star Jimmy Fallon, doesn’t he? It’s not just us, right?

Taylor Momsen Talks About Gossip Girl

Taylor Momsen has been acting since she was little.

But it’s the role on Gossip Girl that will finally place this talented actress directly in the spotlight. She talked about it with TeenTelevision.com…

Taylor Momsen PictureTeenTelevision: Is this really exciting for you to make a transition onto a show with older kids?
Taylor: Oh, it’s totally a blast. I’m having so much fun. Everyone is so great. I am younger, obviously, and it’s a reality check, at the end of the day, because they treat me like such an individual, which I totally appreciate and totally love. But then, they’ll go out and I have to go home and do homework. [Laughs] But, it’s good. I love it. Everyone’s so nice.

TeenTelevision: In the series you have cute Penn Badgley as a protective older bro. Do you have an older bro in real life?
Taylor: No, I’m the oldest. I think that’s the only time I’m actually the oldest. I’m always the baby. I’m the baby in my school. I’m the baby on the show. I have a little sister who’s 10. Her name is Sloane and she’s awesome. I love her. She looks just like me. She’s done a couple things, like ‘SVU,’ and stuff like that.

TeenTelevision: Did you and Penn sit down and talk about the brother/sister relationship?
Taylor: We didn’t really sit down, but at the beginning of filming, he said, ‘I don’t have a little sister. I don’t really get you.’ And then, by the end of the [pilot episode] he was like, ‘No, don’t talk to him. He can’t talk to you.’ He’s protective now. He’s like a big brother to me.

TeenTelevision: He told us he does feel that way. Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick are going to have an apartment in New York. Are you going to live with your parents?
Taylor: I’m going to live with my mom and my sister. We’re moving into Tribeca. We have an apartment there in a new building. It’s really nice. We’re really excited. It’s going to be great. I love SoHo, and I love that area.
