Gossip Girl Takes on The OC!
It's impossible not to compare Gossip Girl with The OC.
Both shows were created by Josh Schwartz and both shows focus on the lives of well-off high school kids. With that in mind, here's a comparison of various Gossip Girl character and characters from The OC...
Marissa vs. Serena: Serena (Blake Lively, right) seems to have it all, but in addition to a party girl reputation, dark family secrets and a disregard for high society, Serena one-ups the sulky Coop with a history of BFF betrayal.
Summer vs. Blair: Like Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson, left), Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) is the queen bee with the designer clothes and riches to her name. But she lacks Summer's loyal following: Blair's hot boyfriend Nate has already cheated on her, while the return of ex-best friend Serena is putting her crown in jeopardy.
Ryan vs. Nate: The crown prince of the Upper East Side, Nate (Chance Crawford) is the guy who could have it all... but doesn't know what he wants. He may be the polar opposite of The O.C.'s poor Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), except for one thing: women. Like Ryan, Nate is no stranger to an impossible love triangle as he stands between frenemies Blair and Serena.

Marissa and Serena are both very simlar
i have to say that when i heard that Josh Shwartz made a new
show based on the fab life of the East side, it immediatly
triggered the OC .. I am an avid fan even though its finished.
The east side is exactly like Newport.. Serena and marissa
dress the same, look the same, and act the same, innocent, but
dangerous.. Serena and Nate got it on, while marissa was
with Bad boy Kevin Volchuk.
I am constantly comparing every little thing. Its like, Seth
is potrayed by Dan, except instead of being with a summer type
girl, hes with the marissa of Gossip Girl, and the Ryan Atwood
type guy portrayed by Nate, is with Blaire,the Summer Roberts
it girl.
and Dans little sister Jenny is like a quieter version (and
less crazy and Neorotic) of Taylor Townsend

yeh i read all the gossip girl books nd there kinda dierent tot th actual series...
but i rekon they both have there goods and bads
with the book things are described diferently thn in the acual series...and in the series the family life is wayyy diferent thn to what it ios in the books

i dont understand why there are so many blogs talking about gossip girl?
think about it, this program, and also de oc, shows the
worst part of our society, comparing the glamorous part of
our country and leaving poor people out of our reality.

I think Gossip Girl also shows that even rich and pretty poeple have problems and arn't perfect.
And what happened to Jenny?! She hasn't been in the show 4 awhile. I MISS HER!

well i suppose if T.V shows talked about and where about the poorer side of life...they wouldt make half the money they do now
ppl want to see rich ppl i dilemas...and love triangles

sure, it may be true sometimes, but its also plastic - to the
empth degree. i agree with sophie, as much as its fun to watch
what good is it going to do? none. its not real. I'd rather see
the whole of our nation as a part of our reality, not just the
super skinny, perfectly clothed, trust-fundey crap we get every
year. its time for america's teen drama's/soap opera's to grow
up. to show a little more.

can we get a show with black people on it? seriously. every freaking teen drama has a bunch of spoiled white kids running around. they act like black teens are too busy shooting each other to go through the same thing. i'll rejoice when there's a teen soap opera where we see realities. white AND black. that would be fucking raw.

omg, i so totally lov the o.c and gossip girl.
it suks erics gay, i thought he and jinny would hav been
great together. and the o.c i cant believe marissa died,
i cryed and its not easy to make me cry. but these shows are
to much alike. it makes me think serenas gonna die.

they're similar, but the major differences lie in the characters who represent the forces
of reason or good in that society. dan humphrey compared to ryan?
not the same. nate is arsehole. look at his history with blair. if you should
be comparing with anyone, it should be luke.
summer and blair are complete opposites. blair is a very
complicated character. serena and marissa are pretty much the same. and that's
quite annoying. i like blair better than serena.
and this show's parental subplot is EXTREMEMLY GENERIC almost
to the point of being a sedative. i MUCH preferred the parents
in the OC.

That's so true! Both shows are very similar even if the mood of NYC against O.C. is really different. The characters are far more innocent in the O.C. than in Gossip Girl (you can find 2 or 3 really "mean" characters in the first one, and 2 or 3 really "kind" characters in the other one).
I would also compare Dan & Seth for the sarcasms and the certain lack of confidence.
However Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage are still amazing. The characters and the production of each episode is just stunning!

I so wouldn't compare Nate with Ryan.
For one Chace Crawford is absolutely gorgeous, Ben Mckenzie...not so hot.
I'd compare Ryan more with Dan.
I'm obsessed with Gossip girl. omg. I hate The OC loll.

You're practically the only person I've heard of that hates "The OC." Everyone else loves it. I'm obsessed with it. I was totally devastated when it ended, though. I completely loved the show. As for Ben McKenzie being "not so hot." I don't think that's the case! He totally rocks my world, along with Adam Brody! They were the cutest and, in my opinion, the best reasons to watch the show. The girls were great as well, though. I can see where the similarities between the two shows are, but at the same time they're different as well. For one thing, The OC doesn't have a gossip blog. No one knows what everyone else is doing. I prefer the OC because I personally think that it's the best show Josh Schwartz has created so far. I love Gossip Girl as well, but the storylines make me mad. Blair and Chuck? I dislike that couple. I loved Blair with Nate because the two of them were really cute together. Hope Chace and Leighton get together in real life. They would make a really hot and cute couple, whereas the storylines on "The OC" I just loved. They were so much fun and interesting. I LIKE Gossip Girl, but I LOVE the OC.

I'd say Georgina reminds me of Julie a bit. Not really sure. Which GG character reminds you of Taylor Townsend? I loved Taylor. Happy that she and Ryan got together in season 4. Autumn Reeser (Tayor) was so adorable.

I really love Gossip Girl, but never seen The OC, thought about ik though..
The OC ain't on T.v. anymore (as far as I know, I live in Holland)So I have to buy it, do you think it's worth it???
