Felicia D. Henderson writes about socialites in Manhattan, but she was born and raised in Los Angeles.
The Gossip Girl writer is featured in a recent issue of The Daily Bruin, UCLA’s campus paper. Here’s what the article had to say:
For Henderson, born and raised in the L.A. area, she finds she needs to research not the latest vernacular, but New York City itself when she writes for the show.
“The biggest challenge for me is what is New York, because I am West Coast,” she said. “That’s where my research comes in.”
Not only is Henderson a UCLA alumna, but she was recently named the Zakin-Hunter professor of screenwriting, the only endowed chair in the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television’s screenwriting program.
While Henderson has spent much of her career behind the scenes of a number of high-profile television shows, her new position in the classroom is very much a homecoming of sorts. Henderson received her bachelor’s degree and master of fine arts degree at UCLA and is currently pursuing her doctorate here.
In addition to her upcoming teaching position, she has endowed several scholarships on campus.

Here’s a great Gossip Girl music video, set to The Fray:
No surprise here: Gossip Girl is gaining popularity among those in college.
The show was recently featured in the Quinnipiac Chronicle, the school newspaper for Quinnipiac University. Here are excerpts from the article:
Freshman Alicia Gentile said about the show: “Fashion, money, and drama… It’s like the new O.C. of New York. It’s fabulous.”
Kristen Bell narrates the series as Gossip Girl, a texting and blogging expert who keeps tabs on the most important teens in Manhattan and the juicy drama that everyone is longing to hear.
Leighton Meester, a 21-year old former child model, plays the role of Blair Waldorf. She lives a fabulous life that is constantly shadowing her best friend Serena van der Woodsen, played by Blake Lively. Blair secretly envies Serena, who is popular and blonde, and previously attended boarding school in Connecticut to escape the burdens of her past.
Their friendship has been on thin ice ever since Serena just picked up and left without letting Blair know.
Blair has more important things to focus on, like her smart and gorgeous boyfriend Nate (Chace Crawford). He’s the good guy on campus, but he too is preoccupied by the mistakes from his past to have an honest relationship with Blair. Serena and Nate have a history together even though Nate and Blair have been an item since childhood. Serena made the mistake of sleeping with Nate and then proceeded to leave town.
Who thought that one group of rich kids could have so much drama and back-stabbing in their lives?
Still, the show is relatable for girls, women and maybe even guys. It is a perfect series for college students, whose lives are surely filled with plenty of excitement.
OMG, did Blair really say that about Serena?!?

Here’s an interview with Taylor Momsen.
In it, the actress talks about her character on Gossip Girl, the innocent freshman Jenny Humphrey:
Chace Crawford recently spoke about his role on Gossip Girl with Prime Time Pulse. Here are a couple excerpts from the interview:
Q: How did you get involved with Gossip Girl then?
CC: Well I switched agents last November and I came back from Christmas and I had a little meeting with my agent to talk about the new upcoming “pilot season.” I got handed a couple of scripts, because I didn’t know which one would work out for me. I saw that Gossip Girl was created by Josh Schwartz, but little did I know how insanely popular this series of books were with younger gals.
The first read I thought Nate was totally attainable for me and something I was interested in. I went in prepared and met with Josh and Stephanie, the director, and casting director, and I guess they liked me. I went in again and again to audition. The key was trying to get Les Moonves, President of CBS, on my side. He was the final check mark in signing me off to play this role. I went in to read about six times.
I shot a few scenes and that was that. It was great. We shot the pilot in March, now doing all of this press, and the show premieres on Wednesday. It’s kinda crazy.
Q: Was there something about the character that you liked or that interested you?
CC: I would like to play a little bit more humor in the future. But for now, Nate has these endearing qualities to him. He makes the right decisions at the end of the day. He’s just a good guy. He always has Chuck over his shoulder, trying to pull him in the wrong direction, though. But it’s pretty cool to play a high school character that you can still relate to the pressures of being conflicted on college choices and being forced to go to his father’s college and the girl situation. It can be too much sometimes.
I think it’s a nice window into the lives of obviously very extraordinary situated teenagers, but these characters are also relatable in certain situations. That is what makes it entertaining. There are some interesting storylines to follow and stories that everyone can relate to.
