Gossip Girl Spoilers: Stephanie Savage on Chair, Nair & Jack

We've all been wondering for weeks now: what is the deal with the Chuck-Blair-Nate triangle? Will it be the real thing or just a blip in the total Gossip Girl time line?

The short answer is the latter.

Zap2it's Korbi Ghosh recently spoke with executive producer Stephanie Savage, and what she came away with was that Blair and Nate won't go away next week, and we will have to live with it for a time, but the two are not exchanging rings.

"We are definitely out there [online], kind of listening to what people are saying. We are very aware there is a lot of interest in having the Chuck and Blair story come to fruition... and that’s what we’re thinking about right now," Savage said.

And what exactly does "right now" mean?

Chuck-Blair-Nate

Well, Gossip Girl season two has already wrapped, so where does that leave us. Stephanie said Chuck and Blair would be a top priority for Season Three.

But does that mean Blair and Nate will be a big part of Season Two's five remaining episodes? "They have a little run," Savage revealed.

"I don’t want people to not be invested in that story because I think that when the Nate and Blair story finally ends, people will understand that it was necessary growth for both of the characters. They come out in a different place."

Sounds like she's got a plan.

Stephanie Savage can even explain the reasoning - or at least try - behind this Nate and Blair reunion and why it makes sense right now:

"It felt like, given the history that they had - when we met Blair, her whole story for the first half of the first season was very much about them feeling like they were destined to be together - it is very realistic. Especially since Blair has been feeling insecure lately - she's found out that she’s not getting into Yale, her life isn’t going to end up like she thought it would and she’s kind of off the path she'd planned."

"Nate offers security, familiarity, and just kind of that nostalgia for that vision of herself that she had as a young girl, wanting to see that come to fruition as high school culminates. This is your high school boyfriend, this is who you always dreamed about finishing high school with. And when that dream presents itself, it’s going to be pretty appealing."

For those still worried the show is simply stalling on Chuck and Blair and that Gossip Girl is planning to forever avoid the relationship between the two until we hit the series finale, Savage offered more food for thought.

Asked if the Chuck-Blair pairing could work without tanking the drama, she said: "We think we had good success on [our first series] The O.C., for example, with Seth and Summer, where they were really together as a couple for the vast majority of the show."

"We told stories where they were having issues and were having obstacles, but in the context of them as a couple. So it’s not necessarily the case that once a couple comes together, they stop being interesting or able to generate story."

In the meantime, as Chuck Bass has to wait out the drama with his true love and his best friend together, the Vanessa thing will continue for a bit.

Stephanie explained that it certainly "won't have the same resonance" as the Blair-Nate situation. But that's in the eye of the beholder, certainly.

Nate, Chuck Pic

Lastly, Stephanie and her writing staff have not forgotten the fact that Nate and Chuck are supposed to be loyal to each other, given their friendship.

Apparently the two boys have "a very sweet story" which will play out at the end of the season as they "kind of figure out the Blair of it all."

As for the whole Uncle Jack Bass-Blair of it all - remember that forgotten detail? - the ball was not dropped after all and it will be revealed in the season finale.

What happened is the writers originally planned for the big "what went down with Jack and Blair on New Years" reveal to play out earlier this year.

The scene with Chuck finding out was even shot and partially shown in a preview. But when the producers watched the cut of it, they just felt like it wasn't dealt with properly. It seemed as though an important piece of drama was being rushed through, so they ultimately decided to hold that back and get a bigger story out of it at season's end.

Mystery solved ... but what could it be? How do you feel about these Gossip Girl spoilers in general? Share your comments with us below!

I really like the blair nate and chuck vanessa triangle or should i say quadrangle. It is way more exciting than just blair and chuck. I don't really like chuck for blair. Nate is so much better for her. Although he treated her a bit bad during the 1st season, chuck treated her worse. Nate and Blair make sense and I just hope the producers don't cut off the blair and nate saga for good. I want to keep seeing them go back to each other every so often.

So many spoilers, way too encrypted.

I just want Blair and Nate. Seriously I want them to have the season two ending. I accept the writers and most fans are completely ignorant towards the books and the underlying meaning of Blair and Nate so I would be OK with Blair and Chuck being together in the future (i.e after season 2), sure I might stop watching, but it wouldn't bother me so long as Blair and Nate got ONE season finale to themselves.

The writers owe it to the BN fans. And I think they should stop believing everything they read on the internet... >.>

  3. E Says:

I LOVE Blair and Chuck together... its the only reason im watching, Chuck needs 2 fight for Blair.. they BELONG together!!! They love eachother so why keep them apart?? Nate and Blair might be cute together but theres no magic and no drama around them... I want 2 see some serious fighting for Blair...

  4. Lynn Says:

I WANT BLAIR and CHUCK together but just not now....yet. it's good to have nate-blair-chuck-vanessa twists for this time being. blair and chuck are both self-centered and it's fun to see both of them weirdly expressing their silly cares for each other. imo, nate-blair's relationship will face less funny obstacles compared with chuck-blair's.

Wow. This is some great info! I'm looking forward to the Chuck-Nate storyline (was wondering how this whole triangle would affect their friendship again!) and I'm also REALLY wanting to know what happened between Jack and Blair. I'm guessing that will be one of the cliffhangers in the season finale. Finally, I'm enjoying the ride, but still looking forward to seeing Chuck and Blair together FOR REAL! And I agree w/ Stephanie... there is so much the writers can do to make their storyline as a couple not boring!

my goSh this is so depressing......i love chuck so muCh ..i mean the character ....i want blair an chuck end up together...huhuh how i wish they change the ending and put an interesting story line of chuck and blaIr...dnt you knw how chuck and blair loVe each other..plZzz i beg u...

  7. slev Says:

My eyes are rolling in the back of my head...are they getting blair and chuck together in the season finale just to have him dump her over Jack? Yes it will be true to their formula of not keeping them together longer than 15 minutes an episode, but come on! We waited for over an entire season!!! Honestly she did what she had to do to save Chuck, I think he should just be grateful. At least she did it for the right reason, unlike him who disappeared into a brothel directly after she told him she loved him....I don't know.. I think they could have better problems than that, but I guess that is for the writers to write and me to cringe while watching....
It is like everyone can be low and disgusting and mean on the show, but when Blair does it she pays for. More interesting would be watching Serena pay the consequences for her actions...and Blair winning and someone realizing how great she is...thought that was Chuck, but I guess I was wrong.

  8. chairluverx Says:

ofc chuck nd blair belong 2gether.

im soz, but nate treatd her badly too. he spent the many years that they wer together drooling over serena nd ignoring her, then he slept with her! id be much more upset over that than with chuck.

chucks gone thru a hard time this season...it doesnt justify him being harsh 2 blair but hes realy given her importance too in places. (summer, kind of wonderful, never been marcusd, the dark knight, pret a poor j, remains of the j, ETC ETC)

doesnt matter who was worse to her; this is about true love. nd in the face of true love it doesnt matter wot that person may have sed or done, because u belong with them and have a connection. this is y i believe CB should be 2gether. but i completely get NB fans thinking that they r like a fantasy...but a fantasy needs a connection always. not just plain history.

its also funny how ppl are swayed by the show. wen CB wer rly hot, EVRY1 wanted them 2gether practically. bt jus becoz NB have been brought up, ppl r being fickle-minded. thers nothin wrong with that tho - it keeps the forums interesting. but....

    CB 4 the long run!!!!!!!

  9. chairluverx Says:

oh nd plz let chuck have his hair + dress sense frm season 1....he looked so much fitter then!!!!!

  10. J Says:

I love Blair and Nate together. They are really cute together. Maybe they didnt have any "sparks" (yet..) but I dont think chuck deserves blair. And im kinda tired of watching chuck fighting for blair or blair fighting for chuck. I dont want this to go back to blair and chuck thing. They can have the "drama" again sometime but i think Nate and blair drama would be more interesting because they didn't have the "drama" like blair and chuck did.
I agree that the writers should not believe everything that is on the internet!!!!!
