I'm actually really surprised that some Nair fans call Nate and Blair epic.
I have no problem with you shipping Nair, but I don't see anything Epic about them. Especially not the snow kiss. All he said was "i want to be with you" and then they kissed!

They are so great together and seem to really understand each other in a way that no one else can!

Blair and Chuck remind me of Scarlett and Rhett, a beloved OLD HOLLYWOOD screen couple. Nate is not the man that Blair needs. Nate is the Ashley and though she loves him, he's just not there for her. Rhett was always there, which his loveable snark and other problems. Ashley has his good looks and charm but he's not very interesting, much like Nate. I mean, yeah, Ashley loves Scarlett but not enough to be with her. On the other hand, Rhett loves her more and is willing to fight for her and anything he can. I know this movie ends in a bittersweet note but I think that that Scarlett and Rhett would have reconnected.
Well, Bec215, you also have some good points. But I will try my best.
1) In my first post, I deal with the fact that Chuck is very immature and in need of therapy. If I thought he could get better, or would even be willing to deal with the twenty thousand issues he's got, I wouldn't be against future Chair. I just think he's the most selfish member ofthe cast right now. And that's saying something.
2) Do you think Blair would care that Chuck was expressing his feelings for Blair through a hooker's vagina? Despite Blair's increasingly frequent trysts, she still takes sex seriously, likely due to her obsession with controlling her body. Real looseness, like Chuck continuing to sleep with Vanessa because he can, is anathema to her.
3) During those three episodes, Nate was going through a dubious time in his own relationship. We cannot argue in Gossip Girl that the existence of a significant other negates the feelings of one party, if not both, for other people. In fact, the way he treats Vanessa puts his previous feelings for Blair in sharp relief. For someone who adores Nate, Vanessa sure doesn't know him, and Nate has not said "I love you" and meant it to anyone but Blair. That, and Blair has not been in contact with Nate in those three episodes. Vanessa was the jealous type, too, that's canon. As to her reaching out to him, at first she was thinking of giving in to the part of her that's contented to think the worst of her. Nate makes her aspirational, and the two instincts don't match.
Yes, Blair and Chuck have a lot in common. And I'm not going to argue that Blair didn't/does (because stopping loving is HARD) Chuck. But I think about how horrified Blair was back in 2x1 when she thought that the person she was most like was him, or how he spoke to her in Victrola and treated her like dirt. Blair wouldn't have minded being like S1 Chuck, because he rose above the drama around him to just be himself, and he had clear cut priorities. I cannot forgive the Vanessa tryst. I loved S1 Chuck/Blair, I liked dangerous 'We have chemistry and you know it' CB as in the Dark Night. But somewhere along the line, I think Chuck has stopped seeing her as a human being and more of a messianic punching bag. I remember the look of horror on his face when he saw Nate's blazer, and his weak will towards winning her (I mean seriously, when Serena wants it more than Chuck dos...!)both indicate to me that if he realizes that he's not up for the task of being the man in her life (which I think he does), he knows that Nate is, and that puts the fear of god in him.
4) I know that the writers are going to make CB the ultimate couple, because there's more teens who can't spell watching the show than other demographics. But the writers aren't that great, they're only human. Not infallible.
Lots of good points, NovaGirl. And I'm the first one to say I really, really did not like the whole Elle storyline (for anyone involved)... it felt forced. If they wanted to give Blair a reason to be angry with Chuck later they could've found a more plausible way, or a more interesting woman, to distract him.
But I have to disagree that Blair is more herself with Nate. Rather I think Blair can be who she *wants* to be with Nate, but she can be who she *is* with Chuck. And I don't see it quite the same way that Chuck's seeming unwillingness to fight for Blair indicates theirs is not true love, or the right pairing.
In 1x10 - when Blair is secretly with Chuck Nate tells him "Every time I see her lately she's lighter, she's happier, she's less... Blair", and says now that the pressure's off him he can see her more 'clearly' - but the Blair he's seeing that he likes is that way b/c she's with Chuck! I'd argue she wasn't "less Blair", she was simply happy. But she was embarrassed at the idea of dating Chuck - and it's not Chuck's fault she wouldn't stand up for her choice.
As for not being able to sustain an epic love story if the guy is 'having his cake and eating it too'... Generally I agree, actually. But in this case there a few mitigating factors: 1) Despite the awful middle-age hair he sported in Season 2, Chuck is still only 17, and doesn't have the maturity to handle his feelings as well as Fred handled his about Holly; 2) Blair utterly rejected Chuck at the end of 2x15 saying "I'm done", so his "playing Prince Charming" for the hooker could alternately be viewed as his way of sublimating his feelings for Blair; 3) Where was Nate during her time of need - even as a friend? You can't argue that Chuck and Blair aren't right together b/c Chuck didn't help Blair in her time of need without running into the problem that Nate wasn't there for her, either...True, Chuck didn't reach out to her as her life went downhill in 2x15, but Blair did not reach out to EITHER Chuck or Nate in 2x16, 2x17, or 2x18... and Nate didn't reach out to Blair - I'd say that's a wash; 4) The truth is it's much easier to create a 'perfect' epic love story in a 90 minute movie than in a weekly TV series, so I'm willing to allow characters some latitude when it comes to a story that has to play out over 3+ seasons :)
And BTW - you're dead-on about Nate's moral relativism... except I'd extend that to the entire ensemble. It's something Josh Schwartz has talked about before, that there are no heros and no villains - no 100% good or bad. That's part of what keeps it interesting for me.

I think that chair is the best option(of course) but i also think that they just can´t be together now. In my opinion chuck should learn what is not getting what he wants when he wants and he also should know how to trate blair because of all the tings that he has done (like the all thing when she said that she loved him and when he called her "wife").
BLAIR ISN´T THE KIND OF PERSON THAT FORGIVES EASILY!!! AND CHUCK SHOULD SHOW THAT HE LOVES HER!!!
By now blair does well being with nate a good person who loves her and is so sweet to her!!!
I made an earlier post declaring my loyalties to team Nair, but I just want to reiterate two points that I didn't before.
1) Nate's an asshole. Seriously. Nate spent the majority of his life as a weed-abusing coward who never pursued hs own desires. In the course of the show, he has displayed himself as a true moral relativist--he chooses whose crimes are worse than others, and because he's beautiful and he never takes pleasure in his selfishness, people let him get away with it. He can say to Jenny that her dress crime is worse than Vanessa's mailhiding, he can break up with a not-bad-if-heinously-written girl for his ex without breaking a sweat, after not calling for a week. Nate pursues his own desires as much as anyone else on the show does. Blair makes him want to be a better person, true. But Blair also gives Nate the permission to be bad, when he feels it necessary. The feeling of protecting someone--the same feeling that drew him to Jenny, he likes feeling needed--makes him do things like beat up Carter and take the punishment for the pool party. The two of them can be more simply themselves when they're together. Someone earlier mentioned that Nate and Serena are very much alike--you should be able to be friends with your significant other. And Blair wouldn't lie to Dorota; she can have fun with Nate.
2) Chuck won't fight. Chuck and Blair are th same kind of people in the same way that Nate and Serena are--while the assholery of the later two is just based on whim and selfishness, Chuck and Blair's bitchitude is from a defensive attitude. Blair wants to defend what she's worked her whole life to accomplish, and Chuck would rather die than admit that if he feels he doesn't deserve a reward he would push it away due to his own feelings of inadequacy. He didn't fight for Blair. He chose to try to play Prince Charming for a hooker. Vanessa will not make him feel inadequate. Chuck cannot step up to the plate, and no matter how much Chair fans insist that he loves her, there should be no forgetting that he wasn't willing to date her and show it. Bec215, men can separate sex and love, you're right--but that doesn't mean that a man can feel like there is an epic, inevitable love story that he can both fuck around on and preserve at the same time.

What really made me so angry the most of all of all the girls chuck slept with I sure in hell didn't care but vanessa for real that did it. I hate her so much I mean so much that now I am not even kidding when I say I really hate chuck too. I really don't know if I will ever be able to watch the show again and not hate him I mean I will definitely watch it. It's my #1 favorite show but I really do hope Blair finds out about vanessa and chuck and hates him for that.

I think the writers were right in bringing back Nate and Blair's love story. They have loved each other since kindergarten and it is not something you can just forget and throw away forever. . ; that's why blair keeps saying ". . .always have always will . . ." As the saying goes even if it is cheesy, " first love never dies . . " I think it is like that with blair and nate. Nate is the exact opposite of Blair. He is nice, kind, he has compassion, he is also passive which complements Blair's personality: strong, independent, and driven. Somehow, her personality comes alive with Nate because he allows her to be the dominant person she is but at the same time the familiarity that they have with each other allows us to see a different side of Blair, a Blair who is more relaxed, a more fun loving Blair with less drama. Though nate has treated her badly in the past, we have seen a number of episodes that show that he really does love her . . writing her love notes, trying to win her back against Carter Baizen, sacrificing himself for Blair's future. It is too bad not a lot of people were able to see how the writers really wanted to portray Nate. From what we see in the recent episodes, Nate is becoming more mature and responsible. . . He is the person she can open up to and that is important in a mature relationship. I think Blair rightly belongs with him. Chuck on the other hand is not true love. It is more passionate, yes. But that is all they have. They both have very strong personalities, very scheming personalities and usually relationships like that don't really work out because one way of the other, one of their dominant personalities would want to suppress the other. I just don't see Blair have a heart to heart talk with Chuck about life and issues important to her. I don't see a future with Chuck being faithful to Blair. I see a lot of heartaches and drama and shouting and arguing. Exciting but not long lasting I'm afraid.

Do you have to ask? Blair "don't belong with Nate. Never have, never will." As for another guy, no one is perfect for Blair than Chuck and vice versa.

madison: i wasn'nt complaining that blair was seducing nate, i was sticking up for nair because the person who left a comment before me said that blair always puts on a 'goodytooshoes'( < i don't care how i say it) act whenever she is around nate, okay??!! no need to be mean about it :/
You're so right Jen! In fact, in "The Grandfather", Blair doesn't just offer him sex, she offers him the kind of no-strings-attached, no 3 words necessary, no committment sex that people hate him for...and what is his response?
"This isn't you. It's not the Blair I want". Because that's NOT what he wants from her.
He's always been in awe of her - she's witty, intelligent, athletic, well-read, beautiful, supportive... in essence, out of his league. She's usually the only one who actually appreciates him.
- At Victrola: Blair says "Bart's going to love it." Chuck: "You are my toughest critic...". She believes in him, and he looks to her for validation. - Reading of the Will: When Blair says "I know you can do this", Chuck's expression softens almost imperceptibly at her praise, and he reads the letter. He trusts her. - On the Rooftop: Blair "I don't want you going anywhere. I couldn't bear it. So whatever you want to do to yourself, please don't do that to me." Chuck says "I'm sorry," because she's the one person he can trust to mean those words.
Everyone makes such a fuss over the limo. Well, when he says "you were amazing up there", the look on his face and the way he says it...it didn't read as a sexual come-on to me. He was in awe that this girl who he considered an equal just out-did him. Because despite the booze and girls, Chuck is way more controlling than Blair - he has to be. He's on his own and afraid and walls himself off from people. He's terrified to lose control. Blair was figuratively shedding her armor (headband was first to go) in a way Chuck isn't capable of doing.
Aside from Blair, he only goes for girls/women to whom he feels superior because he doesn't respect or like himself. So when the girl he thinks would never take an interest in him does, it's no suprise he falls hard and fast almost to the point of obsession.
One more point: My feeling is that men can separate sex and love better than women - their brains are literally wired differently. So the fact he has sex with other girls doesn't mean he is not in love with Blair!

i dun geddit why they keep putting up this poll when its obvious that cb has a very large fanbase. and besides i just dun think its fair to compare them, coz nb storylines were nvr that good to begin with. like in the pilot, they started off with the serena conflict.and then chuck got in between them.nb nvr had much scenes as compared to cb. somehow i prefer watching cb in season 1 coz it gives me that light happy feeling, in s2 it just gets too .. serious n frustrating n draggy. nb seems too rushed in the last 2 episodes, its almost unrealistic. chuck n nate both have their pros and cons, so i think that blair should not be with either one of them just yet. but if she really were to choose, i think that she shud be with chuck by end this season. so that she could really decide if he's the right person to be in a r'ship with. if not, she could always get back to nate next season. Lol..

For me I love to see Blair with Nate they are so hot both of them.

Chuck and Blair- Chair are the reasons I watch Gossip Girl. The people who voted for Chuck knows why this couple is the best. Everyone else who didn't, I just hope you guys will realize the truth.

madison: i wasn'nt complaining that blair was seducing nate, i was sticking up for nair because the person who left a comment before me said that blair always puts on a 'goodytooshoes'( < i don't care how i say it) act whenever she is around nate, okay??!!
no need to be mean about it :/

So the fact he has sex with other girls doesn't mean he is not in love with Blair!

they're both rich, they even eachother out.
with blair's narotic organization and chucks wild-ness they just work.
there's a chase, which makes it interesting.
blair didn't go through as much with with nate was with chuck, like when chuck saw "the real blair" are victrola, or when they always make eachother cry for stupid reasons because they're trying to fight being together even though they know that's how it's supposed to be.
chuck and blair. all the way. :)

chuck & blair all the way.. nate is such a great guy, but he's no match for blair. that pairing isn't fair. she needs someone on her level. someone who can match her strength as a character. she completely out shines nate, but chuck can hold his own. they're a perfect match.

I like both.
Chuck and Blair because they have that chemistry.
And Nate and Blair because they've known each other for so long that they're about comfort and familarity. I think we all need someone like that in our lives.

i dun geddit why they keep putting up this poll when its obvious that cb has a very large fanbase. and besides i just dun think its fair to compare them, coz nb storylines were nvr that good to begin with. like in the pilot, they started off with the serena conflict.and then chuck got in between them.nb nvr had much scenes as compared to cb. somehow i prefer watching cb in season 1 coz it gives me that light happy feeling, in s2 it just gets too .. serious n frustrating n draggy. nb seems too rushed in the last 2 episodes, its almost unrealistic. chuck n nate both have their pros and cons, so i think that blair should not be with either one of them just yet. but if she really were to choose, i think that she shud be with chuck by end this season. so that she could really decide if he's the right person to be in a r'ship with. if not, she could always get back to nate next season. Lol..

but when blair is with nate she can not be herself i mean,
i'm sorry
