Gossip Girl Episode Recap, Pics, Quotes, Music & More

Monday night's Gossip Girl episode, "Valley Girls," featured mother-daughter conflict in multiple generations - as well as a truckload of '80s fashion and music.

As Serena butted heads with Lily, we flashed back to 1983, when a rebellious young L clashed with her mom CeCe (also seen in this episode in the present).

While Lily and sis Carol were up to no good a quarter-century ago, the Upper East Siders went to prom - and you won't believe what Chuck pulled this time.

I think the spin-off wasn't that terrible as most people thought, but I think the prom was too short. :/

This episode sucked! Too much flashbacks about a character I don't really care much about and too little blair and chuck!

  5. fashionista93 Says:

i do agree that prom was a little rushed - but it still had some cute/important bits in that so its alright.
i actually liked the flashbacks, i could see myself watching the spinoff if they carry on with it :)

They should of had the Serena arrest and flashbacks in one episode and the prom in another.

I hated that the scenes for the prom were so choppy and short. Plus Nate and Blair's break up was rushed and bizarre. (Who breaks up with her boyfriend at prom, the night of her dreams, just because he feels like her HS boyfriend? At least wait until the night is over when he is taking you home!! Weird.) Disappointed that there was no good CB action. Blair screaming at Chuck was painful.

I'd just like to take this moment to gloat. Here's something I posted after last week's episode:

"As to how he'll react at the prom to Blair and Nate, I think he'll go back to the friend he was back at the very beginning of the first season. He'll encourage Blair and Nate's relationship, and he'll be working behind the scenes to make Blair happy."

Take that, Nair fans!!!! CHUCK LOVES BLAIR! DON'T MESS WITH THE CHAIR!

But yes, regarding the episode, it was really rushed. At the same time, it did cover everything. I thought the Nair breakup was understandable and sweet. The spinoff was fun, but at times, I really just wanted to get back to the regular Gossip Girl show. (shrugs) Can't wait for the finale!

i thought prom was a bit too rushed. but it blended well with the flashbacks.

oh oh! does anyone think that owen sorta resembles chuck? in like the way he talks?

The 1980s flashbacks: God I have missed Andrew McCarthy!!! I liked the 80s-film look to the fade-ins, although it wasn't consistant. That made it hard when they were jumping back and forth alot. The fashions were "rad"! I laughed so hard at those outfits. Loved the music! But it was really hard to figure out how the flashbacks related to the current storyline - they didn't seem to mesh very well or make a point. I was also a little wigged out by the guy, who played Peyton's Stalker on 'One Tree Hill', playing Van der Woodsen. I think he was just too creepy on OTH and it has scarred me for a long time. Overall, I think the spin-off would do great as a serious if it wasn't tied into 'Gossip Girl'.
The Prom: Too short! I love that Chuck went to the effort to create Blair's perfect prom night even if it meant Blair hating him for sabatoging her prom plans. I liked Blair seeing Nate as her "high school boyfriend" and not as something more, or past that. I think she realizes she still loves Chuck! But I didn't get the whole "we're sisters" moment with Serena at the end! Haven't they always felt that way? Didn't they say something to that effect back in season 1 when S first came back to town?

The flashbacks were way more interesting than Gossip Girl has been lately.
