Leighton Meester Speaks on Future of Chair

On the fittingly green carpet at the CW upfronts, Leighton Meester couldn't wait to share her thoughts on the future of Chuck and Blair, while co-star Blake Lively weighed in on Georgina's return to the show next season.

When last we saw them, Chuck was showering Blair with her favorite treats and, more importantly, finally saying the three little words we waited so long to hear.

But alas, can Chair really work in the real world?

"Chuck and Blair holding hands, Chuck and Blair going to the movies - isn't that what he says would be unrealistic?" Leighton Meester asked E! Online.

"I feel like a tumultuous relationship is a-brewin', but that's what drama is."

The actress, who recently went blonde for her new movie, The Roommate, but promised to go back to brunette ASAP, says she isn't sure what she hopes will come for the fan favorite couple when the show returns August 31.

Stunners

"I want us to see them together, but at the same time, the reason why they're so good is why they can't be together," Leighton Meester says.

Unfortunately, both Meester and Blake Lively agree that Georgina Sparks' return could cast a long shadow over Chuck and Blair's future.

"Chuck and Blair are finally together, but yet Georgina is back to screw up her life with that major vendetta," said Lively of Serena's frenemy.

Despite the cliffhanger conclusion, whether or not Michelle Trachtenberg will be back on the show full-time remains in question. The actress has been cast in a new series, Mercy, a nursing drama that NBC recently picked up.

Gossip Girl Photos: CW Upfront Presentation

The Gossip Girl cast was on hand for the CW's "Upfront" presentation this week, in which the network announced its fall lineup and talked about its new and returning series.

A quartet of gorgeous ladies representing GG and looking outstanding were Leighton Meester, Jessica Szohr, Taylor Momsen and Blake Lively. Here's the fab four:

The Fab Four

The CW's big upfront-opening stunt was bringing out Ed Westwick, in character as Chuck Bass, the teenage billionaire CEO of Bass Industries, to come on stage and articulate the merits of the network. That must have been classic.

Gossip Girl Spinoff May Be Brought Back ... Later

As we reported in our earlier post about it remaining in consideration for 2010, the Gossip Girl spinoff remains marginally alive, despite not getting a series pickup for this fall, according to The CW's president, Dawn Ostroff.

"It was the toughest year we've ever had, figuring out what to pick up, because [our pilots] were all really, really good," she said of the Brittany Snow-led spinoff, which was highly touted but left off the lineup for the network this coming fall.

"We do have room for another midseason show. We have some reality, and probably another scripted drama. We're going to take a beat and see where we are."

"In all honesty, I think the Gossip Girl spinoff is the show that we would love to be able to find a place for as the season goes on," Ostroff told E! Online.

Lily and Father

While you can interpret that as meaning nothing concretely, do consider that she offered no similarly encouraging words about another axed pilot, Body Politic, with Jason Dohring, Brian Austin Green, Minka Kelly and Gabrielle Union.

Gossip Girl Spoilers: The Latest on Georgina

Aside from the magical Chair moment, perhaps the most buzzed-about portion of Monday's season finale was Georgina Sparks' surprise appearance toward the end - and her declaration that she will be attending NYU and rooming with Blair!

But with Michelle Trachtenberg, who plays Georgina, starring on a different series next fall, is she really joining the Gossip Girl cast, as this scene implies?

Looks like yes and no. Here's what Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly has to say about that particular Gossip Girl issue in his weekly spoiler Q&A ...

Q: I just finished watching the Gossip Girl finale, and it was awesome. My question for you is about Georgina: At the end of the episode she announced she was going to be Blair's roommate at NYU - strongly implying that she would be a presence, if not a regular character, in season 3. But Michelle Trachtenberg is in NBC's new drama, Mercy.

What does this mean about Georgina and Gossip Girl?

A: It means producers thought ahead and made sure Michelle Trachtenberg negotiated a three-episode Gossip Girl "out" in her Mercy contract. You didn't really think the Georgina-Blair roommate thing would last longer than that, did you?

Leighton Meester: What's Her Best Look?

Leighton Meester certainly experiments more with fashion than her prim and proper Gossip Girl counterpart, Blair Waldorf, who is stylish but conservative.

In real life, the beautiful 23-year-old actress makes a variety of different looks work for her. Of that there is no doubt. But which of the two below is best?

At the recent premiere of Star Trek in Los Angeles, Leighton arrived with blonde highlights, smoky eyes and pale lips. Needless to say, she looked great.

Only a few days later, she tailored her looks to the event and went high fashion at the Met Gala, playing down her eyes and painting her lips glossy red.

Which look do you think worked best for her? Tell us below ...

Kelly Rutherford Divorce Takes Surprising Twist

While they both stated in January they'd try to handle their split amicably for the sake of their two-year-old son and their second child on the way, Gossip Girl actress Kelly Rutherford and estranged husband Daniel Giersch are facing off again.

You won't believe why.

Rutherford, 40, claims their son, Hermes, is in danger because Giersch, 34, leaves the swimming pool uncovered at his Los Angeles home. She knows this because she hired a private eye last week to conduct three days of video surveillance on him.

"Hermes is very young, very active, not water safe and in a moment's notice, could fall into the swimming pool," Kelly Rutherford warns in a court filing.

Although video footage does confirm the pool was uncovered over three days, nothing egregious was witnessed, according to the investigator's reports.

Kelly Rutherford and Daniel Giersch

"Hermes is not in any danger whatsoever with regard to my pool because I have the pool fully covered with an automatic pool cover," Giersch states in his filing. "Hermes has no access to the pool area unless I take him to the pool myself."

Regardless, on Tuesday, a court ordered Daniel Giersch to keep his pool covered at all times unless Giersch is personally close by.

Meanwhile, a hearing Friday will address the couple's differences over whether it's too stressful a time to potty train Hermes while his parents are in the midst of a divorce and custody battle and since the child is about to become a big brother.

Rutherford, who's pregnant with the ex-couple's second child, a girl, is due to give birth in three weeks. If there's any silver lining here, it's that at least Lily van der Woodsen can be filmed from the neck down on Gossip Girl next season.

Chace Crawford to Star in Footloose Remake

Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford will headline the remake of Footloose, a development that has been rumored for weeks. The studio producing the film has finally locked up the actor, who turns 24 in July, for the lead role in the upcoming film.

The Gossip Girl hunk was said to be first in line for the role of Ren McCormack, famously played by Kevin Bacon in the original, ever since the producers' first choice, Zac Efron, dropped out of consideration after getting cold feet.

Now it's finally a done deal!

Chace to Get Footloose

Chace Crawford is ready to get Footloose ... but with whom?

In the mix for the female lead alongside Chace are Heroes' Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes and Dancing With the Stars' Julianne Hough, all of whom have auditioned for the part of Ariel Moore, played in 1984 by Lori Singer.

Footloose, to be directed by High School Musical's Kenny Ortega, is set to begin shooting in March 2010, around when Chace wraps Season 3 of Gossip Girl.

Congratulations to the Gossip Girl star on landing this new movie and branching out a bit from past roles. Click to enlarge more Chace Crawford pictures ...

Chair: The Lasting Memory of Season Two

The sophomore saga of Gossip Girl had its share of ups and downs throughout the year, but it certainly delivered with the final scene of the season Monday night.

We're sure you all know what we're talking about.

As Shiny Toy Guns' "Season of Love" (click for lyrics) plays in the background, Chuck Bass finally says the three words Blair Waldorf longed to hear so many times.

Here's the climactic scene from "The Goodbye Gossip Girl" and of Season Two, which leaves us wanting more, yet satisfied after a long, sometimes arduous season:

Gossip Girl Spinoff Not Happening This Fall

We regretfully must report a bit of sad news on the Gossip Girl front today.

According to Entertainment Weekly, The CW has picked up a new Melrose Place remake, Beautiful Life, and Vampire Diaries for next fall. Privileged and the Gossip Girl spin-off, which debuted May 11 as part of "Valley Girls," didn't make the cut.

No word if Brittany Snow & Co. will get another look in early 2010.

Oh well. It was worth a shot. At least Gossip Girl itself is coming back in just 104 days (August 31) for a third season, with hopefully many more to follow!

Gossip Girl Round Table: "The Goodbye Gossip Girl"

While readers sound off in the Gossip Girl forum, it's Gossip Girl Insider's turn to analyze some of the burning questions, classic quotes and memorable moments from last night's episode, as is our staff's Tuesday afternoon custom.

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Round Table!

This week's hot Gossip Girl topics from "The Goodbye Gossip Girl" include memorable lines, Chair's declaration of love, the mysterious Scott, and predictions for Season 3 ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
DANdy: This goes to Dan, for the most irrational diss of the night, as he breaks off a friendship with Serena by asking: "When you think about it, what's really keeping us together?"
Gossip Guy: Call me sappy but I loved the Chair exchange at the end where Blair asked him to say I love you a second time. They were so damn cute together!
Mister Meester: The scene at the end was obviously terrific, but I loved these two earlier Chair exchanges: 1. Blair: "We need to talk". Chuck: "I prefer to talk after." 2. Blair: "I haven't seen you in awhile." Chuck: "Have you been looking?"
2. What took you by surprise the most last night?
DANdy: The use of Gossip Girl as an actual character. It didn't really work for me. I'd prefer if the show simply used Gossip Girl as an anonymous, unique sort of narrator. The anti-Meredith Grey, if you will. Leave her alone, Serena, and just focus on your next, revealing outfit.
Mister Meester: Vanessa going to NYU came out of nowhere, though I guess they had to keep her around somehow. Georgina's unexplained caper-solving and enrollment at that same school came as a bit of a surprise, too.
Gossip Guy: Chuck returning from his European adventure with gifts for Blair! OMG. Though Georgina going to NYU and requesting Blair has her roommate? Pretty phenomenal.
