Will Michelle Trachtenberg Join the Gossip Girl Cast?

One of the most surprising elements of last night's episode of Gossip Girl was Georgina Sparks' appearance at the end, in which she nonchalantly called Dan to say that she resolved the Poppy Lifton situation and would see him at NYU in the fall.

We also saw her try to rig things in the school's offices so she could room with another Upper East Sider attending that Lower East Side school: Blair Waldorf.

But will Michelle Trachtenberg be a full-time cast member next season?

G is Back!

Despite Georgina's brief appearance last night, along with that of Carter Baizen (played by Sebastian Stan, who's Leighton Meester's boyfriend in real life), sources say those two are not signed to full-time gigs for next seaspm, at least right now.

As far as we can tell, Michelle's first obligation is to her new NBC series, Mercy. At an NBC luncheon in L.A., she talked to E! about her Gossip Girl future:

"It's definitely a cliffhanger, and obviously very exciting," Trachtenberg said of her season finale appearance. "Obviously one can assume from that dialogue being spoken that there are many more crazy things to come for Georgina."

Gossip Girl Redux: Tuesday A.M. Index

As always, New York Magazine has provided its uniquely insightful, and completely random thoughts on last night's Gossip Girl. With points awarded and deducted as it sees fit.

Check out some excerpts, then comment and add your own ...

  • "You're famous because you got arrested," Blair Waldorf says to Serena van der Woodsen. "Of course this happened to YOU." She is so jealous. Plus 1.
  • Jenny's graduation outfit is just ridiculous ... she looks like a slutty Fry Guy. Minus 2.
  • Cyrus and Eleanor's awkward matchmaking maneuvers are spot-on. Plus 1.
  • What kind of parent, even Rufus, would try to force their kid to go to a debaucherous graduation party, a.k.a. a universally known date-rape circus? Minus 2.
  • Of course Nelly Yuki is too drunk too early at the graduation party. Plus 2. And of course she's in love from afar with Dan, who's just as dorky as her. Plus 2.

Nate and the Grandfather

  • Nate's powerful grandfather took his grandson's "I was a male whore" confession awfully well. Too well, in fact ... especially the part where he goes: "Go on," when Nate is telling him the juicy details. Minus 3.
  • Finally, at least one professor got a text from Gossip Girl. Plus 2.
  • How come it never occurred to anyone that Gossip Girl could be someone younger who is obsessed with them? Doesn't that make more sense? Minus 1.
  • We love that Rufus and Lily immediately commence eating when stoned. Plus 3. And he proposes with a concert bracelet, which feels so right. Plus 3.
  • How come no one's phone is ever on vibrate?? Minus 3.
  • Blair calls NYU a "glorified state school." Plus 1.
  • Chuck graduated in hues of orange, not purple. Minus 2.
  • As queen, Jenny abolishes headbands! Hooray! Plus 3.

Gossip Girl Forum: "The Goodbye Gossip Girl"

Tonight, Gossip Girl will wrap up its second season with "The Goodbye Gossip Girl." And the last new episode until Season Three begins August 31 is one for the ages.

We've seen plenty of videos and photos of this episode, and read spoilers galore. You've shared your opinions, criticisms, guesses and hopes with us at great length.

All that's left to do is watch it all unfold.

Stories that have been building toward this night all season at last reach their conclusion, while others are put into motion for the fall. Events we never thought we'd see finally take place, and a whole lot of things get shaken up across the UES.

What do you think and hope will happen on Gossip Girl tonight?

Discuss "The Goodbye Gossip Girl" in our

As always, Gossip Girl quotes, fashion and music breakdowns, our staff's Round Table discussion and all the latest news, analysis and Gossip Girl spoilers will be posted as information reaches us. Thank you all for watching with Gossip Girl Insider!

Nine Scenes From "The Goodbye Gossip Girl"

After receiving complaints about not posting clips of tonight's second season finale, "The Goodbye Gossip Girl," we've reluctantly added nine of them below.

We've tried to keep our Gossip Girl spoilers reasonably vague and hold off on giving things away, but since the episode has already aired in Canada, the info is out there and Gossip Girl viewers come here to find out - and discuss - what happened.

Hopefully, this scheduling issue is addressed next season and the show will air the same night in the U.S. and Canada, so we are no longer in this situation.

Absolutely DO NOT WATCH the Gossip Girl videos after the jump if you wish to remain in suspense tonight, because unlike the usual sneak previews, which take place early in the show, these reveal major, climatic plot developments.

If you do watch the clips below (which are poor quality), please tune in to the CW broadcast tonight as well. A devoted fan base is great, but only higher, sustained ratings will keep our favorite show on the air for years! We all help make it happen!

Okay, that's enough talk from us. Follow the jump to see clips from tonight's show, including a couple of all-time classics, and let us know what you think!

Another Sneak Preview: "The Goodbye Gossip Girl"

Below is a second sneak preview of tonight's season finale, "The Goodbye Gossip Girl." Prior to graduation, Blair and Serena discuss the end of their high school days (and hopefully S on Gossip Girl's blog), as well as what Chuck said about B ...

NOTE: We will be adding clips from the episode, which aired last night in Canada, but not until after the episode airs. We've received complaints from some readers in previous weeks who want to remain in suspense. Wait for tonight, it's so worth it!

Jessica Szohr Spills on Gossip Girl Finale, Future

Jessica Szohr (Vanessa) recently talked with E! Online about what we can expect on the Gossip Girl season finale, as well as when the show returns in the fall.

No major Gossip Girl spoilers to report, but here are some answers she gave to questions from E!'s Ben Lyons, with a brief video interview clip at the bottom.

Tell us what you think of these replies ...

What's up with Vanessa and Nate? "V will get over Nate's dalliance with Blair sooner rather than later. Obviously, Vanessa's a little bit hurt because that's her boyfriend, but what comes around goes around, so I'm sure Vanessa will be all right."

Will there ever be more to the Vanessa-Chuck relationship we saw earlier this year? "Vanessa hates Chuck... that's what's fun about it. We'll see."

Could Vanessa and Dan ever hook up? "I don't know if I could see Vanessa and Dan together because now that she's come back and accepted his loving Serena, and he's always there for her through so many things with Nate, I think they're just good friends. I don't know if they'll ever date. But it's Gossip Girl, so..."

Could V ever take up with one of the ladies if she exhausts the local supply of eligible bachelors? "For the ladies? I don't know, maybe she will."

Gossip Girl Spinoff in the Running ... For 2010

It's coming down to the wire for the pilots vying for a time slot on the broadcast networks' schedule for next season, according to the Hollywood Reporter, and that includes the much-talked-about Gossip Girl spinoff at our beloved.

The latest on that?

As we reported last week, Melrose Place and Vampire Diaries are considered locks, with modeling drama Beautiful Life, Life Unexpected (formerly Light Years) and second-year sleeper Privileged battling for the third and final slot.

The Gossip Girl spinoff - which debuted as part of the second season's penultimate episode, "Valley Girls," in still under consideration, but now for midseason.

In other words, the executives don't see a place for it right now, but if it's fine-tuned a bit, and there's a time slot open in early 2010, it could be penciled in.

Better than nothing, right?
