As One Tree Hill (2.5 million viewers, 1.2 share) managed to maintain its premiere rating Monday, Gossip Girl (2.1 million, 1.1) faltered in the 9 p.m. slot.
The ratings were down 21 percent from the season premiere, which was down even more significantly than that from the previous season's first episode.
To a point, we could not care less as long as the show remains on the air, and there has been zero indication from the CW that Gossip Girl is in jeopardy.
But on the flip side, a drop in ratings that were never super-high to begin with is somewhat alarming for a show that gets the amount of buzz GG does.
We love it like no other, but because we want to help Gossip Girl ensure a long, bright future, we can't help but wonder if improvements are needed.
That said, we're curious for your opinions on the following questions:
- Do you think the show has gone downhill? If so, why?
- What, if anything, can and should be done to fix it?

Maybe a less competitive time slot? Monday you have House, Heroes, and all those shows on CBS. I vote for a switch to Tuesday, 8 pm.

Think the new time slot has ANYthing to do with it?

I bet the problem here was that when they changed the time slot to 9 pm a few watched because people had made certain adjustments. And if teenagers were to watch this, I bet they have 'curfews'. IDK, that's what I think or... as Amanda says... a less competitive time slot.

IMO, It's because of Whoregina. :)
AHAHHAA. oh whatever.
Maybe the episode seemed quite boring or something, and it kinda was. :|
I want all of them together plotting and scheming, not Nate MIA with Bree Buckley (who i think is fugly and weird btw, they so could've done better) and Serena getting quite deranged and lost between her big boobs.
ahahaha.
well, anyway. I LOVE GOSSIP GIRL. or...just CB! :)

I thought the first episode wasn't very good but the second episode was a big improvement. Things that have annoyed me though: 1) Why is Nate so isolated from the group? They hardly mention him and don't seem to care he's gone off to roll around half naked with a girl he's just met? 2) Serena's strange behaviour. Is she mentally ill or something? The girl needs a slap, it's not an interesting plot, it's annoying. 3) I miss Constance and St Jude's. 4) Gossip Girl isn't really involved except for the voiceovers at the moment.

I think Vanessa is boring, we need more characters like Blair and Chuck ! Also Dan is not interesting, we need action !!!

excuse my former comment. that was just opinion-based.
I think it was cuz of the new time slot. There are many other shows airing at the same time with GG, and people get confused on which one to watch. Me, for example. =D
They should probably move it. But...yah...if it's not in jeopardy then it's A-OK.

The competition on Monday nights at 9. But, that was just last week because HOuse and Heroes had a 2 hr season premiere. They are both on at 8 on Mondays. The only competition GG will have is Dacing with the Stars, and 2 1/2 Men, and I think those three shows are directed towards different areas of age, sex, etc.
I think the main problem this season was the lack of advertising. The premiere was hardly advertised by the CW yet all the other shows were. I think that has a big thing to do with it. Plus I bet they lost a lot of viewers after the crap that happened the second half of last season.
Plus, a lot of people set their DVR, Tivo's and buy GG online. Those sales should factor in as well. So I think that the main problem was the advertising.

They should kill Vanessa, just get her out of the show.
Get back Derena, keep Chair a hot and interesting couple,
and maybe a Nate/Jenny relationship:-P?

Because I know there is a lot of Dan and Serena fans out there that is pissed off with the writers for screwing them up. We want Dan and Serena. Get them back. Than you will get the ratings again, it will at least help. Chuck and Blair stay the same.
Learn something writers, stop teasing us. Ratings are getting bad. Get Derena back. and by saying they are over for good, is not a wise decision.
