Welcome to the Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!
Hot Gossip Girl topics from "The Freshmen" include memorable lines, dubious scenarios, shady characters, Dan and Georgina and a whole lot more ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
LovelyLively: Gotta go with this: G: "Jesus and I have redefined our relationship." B: "You mean he dumped you because He found out you were Satan!"
Gossip Guy: Hehe, I loved when Chuck compared a college degree to an accessory like a Malawi baby or a poodle. Nice. A close second was Blair's general shock when she heard that Dan was a writer.
Mister Meester: The exchange that almost made up for a Chair-less episode, with Blair crawling in bed next to a sleepy Chuck and saying "You were right about the dorms. The lighting is awful. You okay?" Chuck's reply? "I am now."
2. Who do you trust least, Carter, Scott or Georgina?
LovelyLively: Carter. This guy was a shady character for first two seasons, and now we're supposed to believe he has no agenda? Not buying it ... he's hot though.
Mister Meester: I can't figure Scott out and Carter seems genuine with Serena, so I'm taking Geor-gi-na. We all know she's a head case just looking for an excuse to forget to take her meds one day, causing all hell to break loose.
Gossip Guy: Absolutely Scott. It may just be his absolutely horrible acting, but it seems like that man is hiding more than just the fact he's Rufus and Lily's kid.
3. Least realistic: Serena blowing off school for the heck of it, Chuck's meetings with bankers in inappropriate locations, or the entire college party scene?
Gossip Guy: I don't know why, but I do picture Chuck meeting bankers in clubs and after Serena's summer escapades, nothing shocks me with that girl. However, I'm sorry, even at NYU I can't imagine kids would turn down free sushi and cocktails to watch a crappy independent movie by Vanessa. Don't they know how useless that girl is? Normally 11+. And then, oh boy, rooftop party above your dorm with kegs and above ground kiddie pools? Yeah I'm pretty sure we got busted just for bringing six packs into our door room.
Mister Meester: That rooftop party did seem a little fake to me, but not quite as much as Chuck's real estate wheeling and dealing in a nightclub. At night.
LovelyLively: Serena blowing off Brown. I know Kelly Rutherford just had a baby, but I can't imagine Lily would not hear about and stop her shenanigans.
4. Rate Vanessa's uselessness this week on a scale of 1-10.
LovelyLively: Vanessa actually made me a laugh a few times this week (sarcastically saying it's "awesome" to be living on the same floor as B) and since she actually goes to school with Dan as opposed to just appearing where he is when it's most (or least) convenient, she fits in better. Still a bit annoying, though. 5.
Gossip Guy: Okay, I know I'm supposed to jump at these and give some silly number above 10, but I'm only going to put Vanessa at a 10 for this episode. Vanessa actually helped fuel the main plotline this episode and even apologized for being a useless bitch last week. However, for dating Scott, she still gets a 10. And that's very low for me to be giving her.
Mister Meester: I think V actually fits in pretty well at NYU, be it the real institution or the Gossip Girl version. But she apparently doesn't get even a trace of Scott's obvious, awkward, psycho stalker vibe, so ... 5.
AVERAGE VANESSA USELESSNESS QUOTIENT: 6.67!
Vanessa was not quite as useless as usual this week! Baby steps!
5. Dangina: So hot, or so not?
Gossip Guy: So not. Dan is looking hot this season, but G? Not so much. I'm more digging his creepy little literary stalker for him. Like his pops, the dude's finally got some groupies. Unlike the frontman for Lincoln Hawk, I'd like to see actually Dan tap some of 'em.
Mister Meester: A little of both. I don't like them as a couple for many reasons, but beer makes people do crazy things. I can totally see the hookup this once. It'll be funny to see his walk of shame and the rest of the fallout.
LovelyLively: So hot. At least this time he's not using G as a way of getting back at S. He's just a typical freshman out on his own for the first time, looking to drink too much and make out with girls. I love college Dan.
BONUS QUESTION: What have you liked and disliked most about the first two episodes this season?
LovelyLively: Likes: The introduction to NYU life was pretty fun; Serena is wild and unpredictable, as it should be; I lke what the show is doing with Chuck and Blair evolving as an item but also doing their own thing. Dislikes: Nate and Bree aren't doing it for me, Scott seems totally unnecessary, and Carter's interactions with S are confusing, although that may change. Did I mention Sebastian Stan is hot?
Mister Meester: I actually liked the lighter feel of last night's episode, giving us a little bit of an idea of what post-high school Gossip Girl might look like and not depending on forced, overly dramatic story lines (such as Chuck's "mystery girl" from last spring). I'd love to see more Chair (who wouldn't) and more Jenny and Eric, but that should come in time.
Gossip Guy: OMG episode two was way better than the premiere. I feel like they're going to figure out how to handle this show in a post high school way that shows in the past have not. I dig the fact they're giving Blair and Chair their own separate plots and then still the couple scenes. However, as much as I love Joanna Garcia, I am really not feeling the Nate / Bree scenes. Kind of a waste of screen time. I might have to remove his tiny head from the header at this rate.
Is Jenny going to appear at all this season? And why is Scott being so sneaky instead of just coming out with the truth right away?
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Bring back Queen J and mistro Eric!
One question though; now that J is queen of Constance, and Dan is becoming the King of NYU, and their father totally moving in as Emperor of the UES, does that mean that the Humpreys have taken over not just GG but NY too? That might be Humphrey overkill!
Bring back Kelly Rutherford, rightful Empress, we love you! When is she back? Rufus Getting Married?
This is why Vanessa deserves a 10 : "Vanessa is the first to go: Just a few vulnerable words from Georgina and she forgets that just last year, girlfriend did the exact same thing, and fake-befriended her in order, it turned out, to wreak havoc on another hapless human. By the time G breaks out the heavy-handed compliments about Vanessa's documentary "about the community garden in her neighborhood," V's ready to carve someone's heart out for her, and doesn't even notice when Georgina shuts Blair out of her own dorm room."NY Mag
i give V a 9....i only spared her a point because i laughed at her wonderful facial expression when she found out G and B were in her dorm.
Actually, one of Georgetown's residence halls has rooftop parties complete with kegs. If Gtown can do it, I assume NYU can too.
