Forgetting the lyrics, I like the sound of it. She actually sings, which is nice. The electronic layering of her voice is great.
That said... when you combine the bubble-gum flavored melody with the drug references in the lyrics... it's just... wrong. It's seems insensitive to the actual issue of drug addiction. Usually, when you hear lyrics like that, the song is more downbeat. Or there might be one line about being addicted to someone. But to make a whole upbeat song entitled "Your Love is a Drug" feels really off. Maybe if it had a more sexual edge to it, it would be better.
She sounds great... but I can't like the song on a fundamental level.
Chuck and Blair are my sole reason for watching Gossip Girl. I don't mind them breaking up as long as I know that they'll eventually get back together, which is what I think is going to happen. Their relationship hasn't had any real tests yet, so this is probably the first big hurdle.
Chuck has morphed into this awesome guy this season. It's time for him to make a huge mistake that may cost him Blair. If they break up in episode 17 or so, I'm almost 80% positive that they'll have an awesome reunion in the season finale... because that's the kind of stuff that makes this show awesome! Nothing will ever top Chuck's declaration of love to Blair in the season 2 finale.
3.) Will Chuck and Blair last? + Predictions for Season 3.
Chair is here to stay. Chuck and Blair are the ultimate team, and they'll have plenty of opportunity to use their skills. Georgina will be their first target. Then, something will happen with Serena, so they'll have to take care of that. Then, Nate's man-whore past will come back to bite him in the butt, so Chair will come to the rescue again.
Chair will spend most of the season rescuing other people. But I have a feeling that Blair is going to go through something really dramatic her first year at college. I mean, this is her first dose of the real world outside of her Manhattan kingdom. The writers are going to throw something her way. I wouldn't be surprised if a date-rape situation is in the works. Chuck will be totally affected by what happens to Blair. His love will be put to the test at some point.
By the last few episodes, Chair will probably be on the outs... but they'll be back together by the end of the season.
I'd just like to take this moment to gloat. Here's something I posted after last week's episode:
"As to how he'll react at the prom to Blair and Nate, I think he'll go back to the friend he was back at the very beginning of the first season. He'll encourage Blair and Nate's relationship, and he'll be working behind the scenes to make Blair happy."
Take that, Nair fans!!!! CHUCK LOVES BLAIR! DON'T MESS WITH THE CHAIR!
But yes, regarding the episode, it was really rushed. At the same time, it did cover everything. I thought the Nair breakup was understandable and sweet. The spinoff was fun, but at times, I really just wanted to get back to the regular Gossip Girl show. (shrugs) Can't wait for the finale!
Gabriel: "It's a shame we couldn't have worked things out. I mean, I'm better looking and a lot taller than your last boyfriend."
Serena: "True. Your height is nice. But in other areas- morally, anatomically, financially- you're totally bankrupt. Pun intended, of course." (smiles sweetly)
Why don't people understand Chuck? He said it in his note to Blair after Bart's funeral. "You deserve much better."
Chuck is manning up. He doesn't believe he can make Blair happy. So he's letting her go. Yes, he's foolish to believe what he believes. But he loves her, and was man enough to lose her for the sake of her happiness. As to how he'll react at the prom to Blair and Nate, I think he'll go back to the friend he was back at the very beginning of the first season. He'll encourage Blair and Nate's relationship, and he'll be working behind the scenes to make Blair happy.
