I LOVE the show Gossip Girls, but there's just a few things that disturb me about the show.
Since the show fails to comply to the book 100%, why couldn't one of the main characters have been Asian or Black or Latino?
Okay, maybe that is a bit much for "American" telivision, Okay, but the show could have atleast given Isabel and Kati ( Blair's two token minority puppets) more lines and a slightly larger part in the series. Even the character of Vanessa Abrams is undermined on the show.
As I have already mentioned before, I think this is a great show for a young adult audience, the only thing I am afraid of is, that it's not for ALL adult audiences.
The only reason that Vanessa Abrams, Nicole Fiscella, and Nan Zhang were casted, we so that the makers of Gossip Girl could pull the "we're a diverse cast" card.

Um Im not sure if you have realized by GG is set in NEW YORK! Most of the people that live there are WHITE! I dont think the writters are trying to pul the "we are diverse" card I think they are being realistic about the population of NY.
Fair enough Kati and Is arent given many lines but neither are half of the white people on the show. For instance Blair had a posse for the entire season and Is and Kati where the only ones to actually say anything. Vanessa is not an undermined character, the only person who has a problem with her is Blair (in defence of her best friend) Also if you have read any spoilers Vanessa is about to hook up. Im not really sure how you could get involved in the show more.

I think the actress that plays Vanessa is actually white.

I'm pretty sure Vanessa is supposed to be Jewish.

the girl who plays Vanessa, in real life is half black... Isabelle is black, obv.. and Nelly is asian.... it is a bit redic that theres no main main character that is of a minority..
BTW to the person who said that NYC is mostly white, have you ever been to NYC? It's one of the most ethincaly diverse places in the world... The upper east side might be prodominently white... But New York City as a whole is not....where the heck do you think most rap music comes from? harlem, queens, etc are almost completely black & hispanic. China Town, enough said.. there are so many other ethnicities represented in nyc..

I don't understand why everyone's like oh we need diversity!!! Who cares???? The UES is mostly white anyway, minorities are lucky they're even on the show at all.

Thats probobly the most ignorant thing I've ever read. There are just as many rich ethnic people as there is white people. As someone above stated NYC is very diverse so it would be more realistic to have more ethnic people there. However with there guest stars I dont think their specifically looking for white people, theyre just the ones who happen to fit the part. And the minions are meant to have no story lines or lines at all they basically just follow the whims of Blair.
