According to the GG blog at the cw site This guy Julian is the director of the play meaning him and Vanessa must have films in commom or something. This is Nates chance to fight FOR Vanessa since in the promo he says "I know you're into him." Nate being so insecure[he never has before]shows the he is very in love with V. I know V is in love with N to. She would NEVER cheat.
