Gossip Girl Round Table: "Enough About Eve"

Welcome to the weekly Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!

As the Gossip Girl forum lights up with your thoughts, the Insider staff assembles to discuss burning questions, funny quotes and hot moments from last night.

Gossip Girl topics from "Enough About Eve" include Nate's scheming skills, Chuck's dalliances, Carter's disappearance, Vanessa's ... um, existence and more:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
DANdy: Pretty much anything out of Chuck's mouth, but I'll go with his calm reaction to kissing a man: Do you really think I've never kissed a guy before?
Gossip Guy: LOL, I dunno why, but I loved Blair going to Lily for maternal guidance and responded with, "Where'd you learn to give a pep talk, Guantanamo?" Speaking of which, WTH is Eleanor? She couldn't show up for Lily's wedding or Blair's toast? I know Cyrus is an entertaining man, but can't you leave his side for a second?
Mister Meester: I love that Blair would openly call Vanessa "a tired cliche from the 718" planning "preachy I-hate-the-man talk," and "some girl with tacky accessories who lives to recycle." Girl does not mince words!
2. Who would you have chosen to give the toast?
DANdy: Rufus. We've seen the kind of waffle spread he's responsible for; it's safe to assume he'd do wonders for any toast, as well. (Thank you. I'll be here all day!)
Gossip Guy: I'd go for the celeb factor. NYU needs money. As webmaster of a celebrity gossip site, I can tell you they bring in more than hippies or Queen B.
Mister Meester: Blair Waldorf. Just to see if she'd zing Vanessa during the speech. Or if anyone would actually stay awake through the Napoleon zingers.
"How to Succeed in Bassness" Promo
As the dust settles from last night's scheme-fest, below is the first CW promo for "How to Succeed in Bassness," next week's all-new episode of Gossip Girl.
It's Halloween, and Chuck is opening up his new club, but it looks like Blair is not invited. Ouch. Hopefully these two can patch things up before too long.
Meanwhile, Dan may or may not see an Olivia sex tape (of sorts).
Gulp. Check out the promo and see what you think ...
Tuesday Gossip Girl Reality Index Time!
Below are excerpts from New York Magazine's patented reality index of the previous night's episode Gossip Girl, a weekly dissection that's never to be missed.
We've posted our official episode recap of "Enough About Eve." Now, some highlights from NY Magazine's analysis, at once insightful, arbitrary and hilarious:
  • The asymmetrical dress in which Serena is roaming around the city is both hot and totally absurd. Plus 1.
  • Why does Gossip Girl still call Dan Lonely Boy? Minus 1. Look at him in that last scene, surrounded by friends and family, like it's the Olive Garden.
  • P.J. Buckley is spot-on, from his popped collar to the fratty guys hanging around to the d!ck look he gives the photo of Trip, to the fact that he seems more upset about his sister gaining 30 pounds than being brokenhearted. Plus 2.
  • And wait: Why does Vanessa's mom have a cell phone and voice mail? Cell phones are just noise pollution, and they also emit radiation! Minus 7.
  • Olivia calls Malibu "the 'Bu." Amazing, even in jest. Plus 1.
Back in the Game
  • Chuck would have thought twice about the whole boy-flirtation scenario, if not for his own hang-ups, in order to stave off Blair's worries. Minus 3.
  • Vanessa's father "had to finish installing the solar panels at the chicken coop at the co-op," and is "organizing the union for local 72, the cheesemakers union." Plus 7 for the amount of ridiculous neo-hippie color in one sentence.
  • Why is Nate trying to save Carter? Can he pull this poker thing off? How is Nate even there if Bree's family hates him? Some of these questions were answered when Nate's plot was revealed, but Minus 6, because not enough.
  • When she's being herself, Olivia favors shapeless, unflattering prairie dresses over skintight Hervé Léger ensembles. Plus 2, that is so NYU starlet.
  • Serena calls 411 to find P.J. Buckley? And it worked?? No. Minus 3.
  • Blair: "Napoleon's always good for a few zingers." Plus 1.
Gossip Girl Episode Guide: "Enough About Eve"
Last night's Gossip Girl featured more Vanessa than we're used to seeing, and we didn't know V had some of that scheming in her, to be quite honest.
Not that it worked out in the end - for her, or for her rival Blair Waldorf.
Both girls sought the coveted NYU freshman toast, and targeted one another (along with Olivia), stopping at nothing to do the honors. It got ugly.
Speaking of lies, they didn't stop with that plot line. Serena and Nate pulled some interesting deceit of their own to get Carter Baizen off the hook.
For all the details from "Enough About Eve," here's our episode guide.
Vanessa and Mom
Vanessa's mom even found out she sucks. Just kidding. Kind of.
Leighton Meester Talks About Chuck's Kiss, Lady Gaga
Gossip Girl is about to step up its love game.
On tonight's episode, Ed Westwick's Chuck Bass will start playing for the other team - or at least masquerade as such - and kiss a guy on the show.
No word on how much he'll like the gay kiss, but his on-screen love, Leighton Meester, divulges that her own Blair Waldorf may be the mastermind.
"Well, I guess that I can tell you some things," she told MTV on the set of the new music video for her duet with Robin Thicke, "Somebody to Love."
"No, it's not tied into the threesome. I think all of this is so everybody grabs their attention, and we are all in college now, so we can definitely push the limit a little more with the sexuality, which is fine by me."
"I sort of make the kiss happen. I can tell you that much, and that's it."
Meester at the VMAs
Leighton Meester previews tonight's Gossip Girl and beyond.
As if the latest steamy story lines on Gossip Girl weren't attention-grabbing enough, Lady Gaga will also be making an appearance later this season.
"I don't know what I can say, and what I can't," Meester said. "But it was really cool. It was very avant garde and kind of gothic, and she's pretty cool."
While Penn Badgley suggested last week that Gaga would have something to do with Dan Humphrey's storyline, Meester clarified that isn't exactly true:
"She just makes a cameo, and we talk about her for awhile," she said. "But, yeah, we all have a story line where we put on a cabaret with her songs."
"Other than that, you'll have to wait and see."
Victoria Beckham to Guest Star on Gossip Girl
Victoria Beckham has reportedly landed a role on Gossip Girl and will arrive in New York City on Wednesday to shoot scenes for a future episode.
Looks like Posh has gone from Spice Girl to Gossip Girl!
“I’m beyond obsessed with that show,” she has said.
Becks is just the latest high-profile guest star this season. We've already seen Tory Burch, Tyra Banks, Hilary Duff (ongoing) and the Sonic Youth, and we will soon see Lady Gaga performing her new song on the show.
No word yet on whether Victoria will play herself or someone else.
Are you excited for all of the star power? Or is it overkill?
Gossip Girl Forum: "Enough About Eve"
Last week's Gossip Girl, "Rufus Getting Married," was probably the best of the third season so far. Will tonight's "Enough About Eve" build on that momentum?
From what we've gathered, there are several major plot developments this evening. Dan and Olivia (below) are getting closer. Carter Baizen is in trouble.
Perhaps most intriguingly, there is the gay kiss Chuck apparently shares with a prominent NYU alum, as part of a scheme by Blair to take down Vanessa.
Needless to say, that will be interesting to watch.
We've watched loads of previews and promos, browsed through a photo gallery and read plenty of spoilers for the episode. All we can do now is enjoy.
How is Gossip Girl Doing So Far This Season?
Every Monday after Gossip Girl, we put up polls to gauge your reactions. It's not exactly scientific, but it sheds some light on which episodes are best received.
So far, through five episodes this season, last week's "Rufus Getting Married" was rated the best, by a whisker over "The Lost Boy" (the third episode this fall).
Both received a combined 84 percent of votes cast in either the "Awesome" or "Pretty Solid" categories, with last week's registering a bit higher in the former.
All five episodes so far in Season 3 have received consistently positive reviews. Below are the surveys' results so far (you can still vote) so you can take a look.
Incidentally, last season's ill-fated spinoff-starter, "Valley Girls," fared the poorest of any episode since we've done this, while the Season 2 finale rated highest.
Three More Sneak Previews of "Enough About Eve"
We've just tracked down three new sneak previews of Monday's Gossip Girl, "Enough About Eve," that recently surfaced online, and we think you'll like them.
In the first, Nate and Serena plot their strategy against Bree's family. He thinks he knows how to outsmart them ... provided Serena's the one who's playing.
Check out the clip of Serenate scheming ...
After the jump, Vanessa is featured in a pair of previews, squaring off against Blair (setting the stage for her to resume her game with Chuck, as seen in the first two sneak peeks) and then spending time with her mom, Rufus and Lily.
Blair is clearly out to put V in her place ...
