Gossip Girl Episode Recap, Pics, Quotes, Music & More

Monday night's Gossip Girl episode, "Valley Girls," featured mother-daughter conflict in multiple generations - as well as a truckload of '80s fashion and music.

As Serena butted heads with Lily, we flashed back to 1983, when a rebellious young L clashed with her mom CeCe (also seen in this episode in the present).

While Lily and sis Carol were up to no good a quarter-century ago, the Upper East Siders went to prom - and you won't believe what Chuck pulled this time.

Gossip Girl Redux: Tuesday Morning Reality Index

Below, New York Magazine offers its unique blend of humorous, insightful, completely random thoughts on last night's Gossip Girl, "Valley Girls," with points assigned.

Check out some excerpts, then comment and add your own ...

Stewing in prison, Serena had some time to come up with one-liners, and her anger at Lily led to the worst insult ever: "I would rather put my kids up for adoption than end up like you." Beat. "Oh, wait, you did that." Iced. Plus 3.

If Serena indeed were somehow able to simply hang out in jail for as long as she wanted, we highly doubt they would in turn make it comfortable enough for her to be so jolly whenever she's on the phone. Minus 2.

The actress who played younger CeCe grew on us. She really had the voice and look down, and they all had clearly practiced similar mannerisms. Plus 4.

Carol and Lily

The lengthy exposition about Carol is beyond fake and terrible. Lily and CeCe know who she is. Why do they keep explaining it to one another? Minus 5.

Carol's boyfriend: "To the Impala!" Lily: "The what?" Plus 2.

Serena didn't know she was going to be arrested before today. So she clearly would have had a prom dress already. Minus only 2, because at least Lil J's creation managed to do the near impossible - tame Serena's boobs.

Matt Barr plays Keith van der Woodsen, whose appearance made us gasp and kick up our feet like a cartoon rooster. Plus 4 for him being a hot, blond dick.

Nate wouldn't be perceptive enough to figure out Chuck was up to something re: prom. Did getting into Columbia make him get smarter? Minus 2.

At least the bad dancing at prom, despite the cheesy music, is real. No matter how fancy you get, horny teens just want to hug and waddle. Plus 2.

Brittany Snow Talks About Young Lily

In a promotional interview for the CW, Brittany Snow dishes on the Gossip Girl character she'll be playing the teenage version of starting tonight in "Valley Girls."

Here's what Brittany has to say about Lily's past, the music and fashion of the 1980s, how she became acclimated to the new role and a whole lot more:

Gossip Girl Forum: "Valley Girls"

In just a couple of hours, Gossip Girl will air an all-new episode, "Valley Girls."

It's the 24th episode of the second season, with just one more to come next week. This week also serves as a teaser for the potential '80s spinoff, as we know.

We've seen plenty of preview clips and photos of this episode and you've shared with us all of your opinions, criticisms, theories and dreams at great length.

Now it's time to sit, watch and comment on the events as they unfold.

Will the '80s flashbacks be worthwhile and leave us wanting more, or just be a waste of time that makes us resent missing more of the present day Upper East Siders? Is tonight the end of the line for Nate and Blair? How will Serena get out of jail?

What do you think and hope will happen on Gossip Girl tonight?

Discuss "Valley Girls" in our Gossip Girl forum!

Prom Dates

As always, Gossip Girl quotes, fashion and music breakdowns, our staff's Round Table and all the latest news, analysis and Gossip Girl spoilers will be posted as soon as we have anything to pass on. Thanks for watching with Gossip Girl Insider!

Stephanie Savage Previews Gossip Girl Spinoff

During tonight's "Valley Girls," we're flashing back a quarter-century to the teenage days of Lily Rhodes, and if all goes well for producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, those flashbacks will morph into a new Gossip Girl spinoff series.

In the past week alone, the spinoff has been presumed dead, then reported to be still alive and kicking (albeit tenuously). Can fan reactions to tonight's show make or break its chances of getting picked up by the CW for the upcoming season?

That we'll have to wait and see on. But for now, Stephanie Savage previewed the episode, and the spinoff in general, in an interview with Zap2it's Korbi Ghosh.

Here's what she has to say ...

Q: '80s. Love it. Already on board. But exactly what year will things begin, will we know?

A: We’re going to try and be somewhat vague about that, just so we don’t get trapped in nitpicking, but we’re starting around 1983. Lily is in high school, so we wanted to give it a nice long run before it turns into the 90s when she’d be meeting Rufus.

Lily and Parents

Q: The Gossip Girl episode during which Lily made a list of all the men she'd slept with... should we have been pausing our DVRs and looking closely at that list? Are any of those guys going to pop up should the show go to series in the fall?

A: Well the names on that list were mostly our crew members’ names, and that’s largely just for legal reasons. A lot of the guys that would have been on Lily’s list, that are on the list in her mind, are guys that are older and have families now and they don’t necessarily want to be associated with Lily’s past. But we'll still be telling those stories, definitely.

For whatever reason, the CW show airs in Canada a night early, on Sundays.

All of these clips involve the present-day Upper East Siders, no flashbacks. Here's a 15-second Blair-Chuck scene from the prom that doesn't give away too much ...

"Valley Girls" Canadian TV Promo

Below is a low-quality promo for tonight's all-new episode of Gossip Girl, "Valley Girls," as aired on Canadian TV. As usual, it's a little different than the CW promos.

Even with the Gossip Girl spinoff reportedly dead or close to dead, it should be fun to see tonight's flashbacks, and what impact they have on the spinoff's fate.

Valley Girls: Canadian Promo

We're looking forward to seeing how the season wraps up tonight and next week! You can follow this link for our full collection of sneak previews and clips so far.

The episode aired last night in Canada, and if anyone has links to clips from it, let us know and we'll post them after the jump for Gossip Girl spoiler fanatics!
