Gossip Girl Recap, Quotes, Music and Pictures

Last night's Season 3 episode of Gossip Girl introduced us to the world of NYU. For some, it's a chance to start fresh. For Blair, it's a living nightmare.

The former Queen B found herself at the bottom of the social barrel, looking up at the likes of peons like Dan and Vanessa and arch-rival Georgina.

Elsewhere, Serena's wild ways caused her to flake on Brown and sabotage Chuck's business deal, while Nate and Bree seem to really like each other.

For a recap of all the action, click here for our official episode guide!

We've spent the last hour compiling all the best quotes from the evening, as well as a list of the music played during "The Freshmen." Click to see!

Gossip Girl Tuesday Reality Index

It's time for one of our favorite weekly pieces of Gossip Girl media coverage - New York Magazine's plus-minus reality index of the previous night's episode.

We've posted our official episode guide to "The Freshmen." Now here are some highlights from NY Mag's arbitrary, funny and nonsensically unique analysis:

  • Lily isn't there to take Serena to her first day of college. Plus 3.
  • Why did Rufus wake up at Lily's house and Dan at Rufus'? Minus 3.
  • Plus 2 for Blair’s retort that Chuck should really stick to doling out life lessons he knows, such as “Never drink absinthe with Daniel Baldwin.”
  • Nate and Bree flip each other over during romantic pillow talk at least once, maybe two times ... either way, over the believable limit. Minus 2.

Business Meeting

  • Chuck refers to his apartment as “The Bass Cave.” Finally, he says something teenage. Phew. With all the business meetings and his Gordon Gecko look, we worried he was becoming an adult. Plus 1.
  • Dan: "Everything I learned about women I learned from Judy Blume's Forever." Plus 2. Plus 2 more for his nerd gallery howling with laughter.
  • Carter Baizen is always just roaming around random parts of the city. The Village, Nolita, Park Avenue, etc. Does he do anything? Minus 1.
  • When Good Serena is required to lie, she pauses and gets distracted-seeming, like her mind is broken. This makes sense. Lying is hard. Plus 3.
  • Not to be macabre, but NYU students are not allowed on roofs. Especially not to, you know, have a big underage drinking party. Enough kids wind up jumping off those places when they're sober, okay? Minus 5.

Gossip Girl Promo: "The Lost Boy"

Below is the first promo for next Monday's episode of Gossip Girl, "The Lost Boy." It's too short, but we do get to experience Dan doing the walk of shame and Carter getting slapped in the span of 20 seconds, so it's a winner all around!

"The Freshmen": What Did You Think?

"The Freshmen" just aired on the CW and we saw a lot of new developments for our favorite college guys and girls. Change is in the air in NYC, to be sure.

There was the wildness that is Serena, the hotness that is Nate and Bree, the cute fish out of water that is Blair, and Dan and Georgina ... wow. Just wow.

Check out our episode guide if you missed it or need a refresher, then tell us how you feel about the second episode of the season by voting in our survey.

Was it all that you thought it would be? Are you disappointed? A little of both? Feel free to leave us comments with your more detailed thoughts, as well!

As always, Gossip Girl Insider will weigh in with its Round Table - as well as quotes, music, fashion highlights, news, photos, spoilers and more - ASAP.

Gossip Girl Emmy Style Showdown: Leighton vs. Blake

The 2009 Emmy Awards Sunday evening did not feature our favorite show nominated in any major categories, but Chuck and Blair were named the TV's #1 hottest couple during E!'s Emmy pre-show at least. Goooo Chair!

Also, the Gossip Girl cast's two leading ladies were on hand for the festivities, looking totally fabulous on the red carpet as you might expect.

Here's Leighton Meester in white and Blake Lively in red. Whose dress do you like better? Vote in our fashion survey below and let us know!

Desmond Harrington to Return as Jack Bass

Jack Bass, devious uncle of Chuck Bass, is set to return to the show later this season, TV Guide reports, having spoken to actor Desmond Harrington.

"I will be back," says Harrington, who plays the character. "I think it's episode 15 or 16 where I show back up this year. It's fun playing Uncle Jack."

When we last saw Jack Bass, he tried to attack Lily van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford), who took over Bass Industries for one-time stepson Chuck.

Jack was then sent packing back to Australia with a sore jaw after being punched by Chuck. What do you think brings him back to New York City?

Jack

Harrington, who currently plays Det. Quinn on Dexter, says the producers if Gossip Girl asked him to come back, but he doesn't know the plot details.

However, the actor says he hopes to continue making Chuck's life a living hell again: "I think I am there to screw that kid's life up basically," he says.

"I think [Jack Bass] might be, out of all the most evil characters the show has ever had on it, the single most evil character. He's just pure evil."

We learned on the Season 2 finale that Jack slept with Blair, though this was practically an afterthought. Will it be explored more this season?

Are you excited to see the return of Jack Bass?

Blake Lively Fashion: Awesomely Affordable!

You may not look like Blake Lively, but you can dress like her.

Semi-affordably, too! At least sometimes, thanks to Anna Sui.

The Gossip Girl star turned out at Fashion Week to celebrate Anna Sui's Gossip Girl-themed line for Target, which tops out at under $100.

Not a bad deal for something a glamorous gal like Lively would wear out.

Here's Blake in one of the line's offerings. What do you think?

Gossip Girl Guide: Sexperimentation

Here's a funny preview for new episodes of Gossip Girl that adopts the format of the similar promos that aired last spring. This guide to the Gossip Girl vernacular is a guide to "sexperimentation," a college rite of passage.

These things happen when you're a freshman in college. After all, who among us hasn't had an experience with a "Geor-gina" (rhymes with ... forget it) ...

Canadian Promo For "The Freshmen"

Sorry for the poor quality, but here's a promo for "The Freshmen" from Canada's CTV. The dialogue excerpts are a bit different than the U.S. version.

The episode airs tomorrow night in both countries. Check out the CTV promo below and the sneak previews we posted yesterday afternoon. Enjoy ...
