The Tuesday A.M. Gossip Girl Reality Index

Each Tuesday, the previous night's Gossip Girl is reviewed by New York Magazine and assigned scores according to its unconventional "reality index."

Check out some of the highlights (and some lowlights) from the publication's analysis of "Gone with the Will," and leave a comment with your own!

  • For once Chuck wears the same outfit for an entire episode. Plus 3, because even for Chuck, with all the sleeping in the limo, it was inevitable.
  • Sorry, sometimes these people have to be adults. Lily would be there for the reading of the will, not just her lawyer. Minus 3. Oh, and every other cousin and employee Bart ever glared at would have been there, too. Minus 5.
  • Lily has to read an old Boston Magazine in the waiting room. Somebody must have already circled all the toasters in the tree from Highlights. Plus 1.
  • Why is Jack's office in the Palace? Why is it so small and crappy? Doesn’t Bass Industries have a building? Or secretaries to sexually harass? Minus 4.

Bass, Jack

  • Chuck can't stop dropping the story about his Italian au pair making him a man. Plus 2, because a 17-year-old dude would mention that every chance he got.
  • Minus 5 because the Girls of the Steps are cruel, but they're not that cruel.
  • For once it made sense that Serena would go to Brooklyn to see Vanessa. They're not friends, so she needed an in-person appeal for the scoop on Dan. Plus 3.
  • Lily: "You don't think I've thought about this child every day of his life?" Please. She rarely thinks about the children who live in her house. Minus 1.
  • The adoptive parents don't want to meet Rufus and Lily. Plus 5, because this is the only realistic adult plot turn in the entire episode.

Gossip Girl Spoilers: Nate Gets a Cousin

The Gossip Girl producers will be expanding Chace Crawford's enviable gene pool in the form of a cousin for Nate, according to Entertainment Weekly today.

The yet-to-be-cast character will be in his 20s and is described as a wealthy, confident, politically-minded and - all together now - extremely good-looking guy.

But before you go fixing him up with Blair, Serena or anyone else on the Upper East Side, you should know that this cousin of Nathaniel Archibald is married.

You should also know that his name is Kip Vanderbilt.

But all signs are that Kip is not a descendant of New York's legendary Vanderbilt family, though. For starters, Kip's dad's name is William, not Cornelius.

Nate the Great

Tuesday Morning Gossip Girl Reality Index

Every Tuesday, the previous night's Gossip Girl is examined by the staff at New York Magazine and assigned scores according to its "reality index."

Check out some of the highlights (or lowlights) from the magazine's analysis of "In the Realm of the Basses," and leave a comment with your own!

  • Blair Waldorf's address, according to the mail, is 1136 Fifth Avenue. Seems reasonable. Plus 5. Also, the Colony Club? Unfortunately real. Plus 2.
  • When Dan reaches to kiss Serena, he has a lovely manicure. Minus 1.
  • How awesome was it when Blair started shushing Dorota about Chuck, and Dorota instinctively started shushing herself? Plus 3.
  • People are allowed to give babies up for adoption! In fact, if parents aren't ready, it's a wonderful thing to do for a child and a set of hopeful parents. Minus 10 to the producers for making it seem so incessantly monstrous.

Hook That Bass!

  • Chuck shows up at school wasted, smoking hash and wearing a horrible sweater (sans scarf) and all Blair can think about how he hasn’t said "I love you." Plus 1.
  • Let's discuss Uncle Jack. Hot, but a letdown. He's an idiot in this episode, and we're led to believe he's going to be an appropriate villain in the next? Minus 5.
  • The scene when Blair looks into the mirror, cries, gets serious, crumples, and freezes is perhaps the best moment all season. Plus 20. Where is her Emmy?!
  • Serena tells Dan she never e-mailed or called him after break because she "needed to make sure we both felt the same when the dust settled." Sure. Because teenagers are known for their patience and maturity. Minus 3.
  • Uncle Jack gives 15-year-old Eric van der Woodsen a drink and told him to enjoy it. Plus only 2, because how did that kid get in there anyway? Even a bouncer at Chuck's bar wouldn't let in someone who looks approximately nine.

Gossip Girl Spoilers: Georgina Sparks is Back!

Batten down the hatches, Upper East Siders - Hurricane Georgina is blowing back into town, according to Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly.

Sources confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg will be reprising her role as Serena van der Woodsen's (Blake Lively) nemesis Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl - and for multiple episodes. She first appeared toward the end of Season One.

A Gossip Girl rep declined to comment on the record, but an inside source says Georgina, who was last seen being carted off to rehab, will reappear toward the end of the current Season Two. Wonder in what capacity?

Go Home!

Creator and executive producer Josh Schwartz had hinted at Georgina's return in a past interview, but we're glad it's coming to fruition. The more drama, the merrier!

In related news, have you heard the rumor that Georgina will turn out to be Lily and Rufus' MIA love child? Crazy, right? Well, it's even crazier when you consider the fact that said love child is (spoiler alert!) ******** * **.

Gossip Girl Spoilers: Aaron Rose Gone For Good!

You'd better be sitting down for this piece of Gossip Girl news revealed late yesterday:

Aaron Rose has gone to Argentina, which we know... and he's not coming back! Ever!

Try to contain your celebratory dances and other behavior.

Despite no ending seemingly written for the character's story arc, the CW has confirmed that December 8 ("O Brother Where Bart Thou?") was the last we'll see of John Patrick Amedori, who had played Aaron Rose in the past six episodes.

Gossip Girl News and Notes

A couple Gossip Girl news items from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos today ...

Q: What's up with Nate and Blairl? I heard they might be hooking up again? WTF?!

A: That's what I hear too. WTF indeed! Gossip Girl executive producer Stephanie Savage isn't helping clear up these rumors, saying, "Nate and Blair have really become friends, and their romantic past has become a very nice platform for deep friendship. Without giving too much away about what's going to happen, at the end of something like high school you find yourself looking back on who was with you when you started this journey and certain feelings come to the surface that might be surprising." Stephanie also says Blair and Dan will be playing opposite each other in the school play "and that brings out some very interesting conflict on both sides." OMG, could the frenemies become... friendly?!

Q: Are Nate and Jenny really going to have a baby? I am dying to know!

A: No, Jenny and Nate are definitely not having a baby. Sorry, I believe this rumor stemmed from what I believed to be a very blatant joke, but a joke that at least one other site picked up as fact. As far as I know, Nate and Jenny are done.

Upcoming Gossip Girl Episode Titles, Air Dates

Gossip Girl's holiday hiatus mercifully ends January 5 with "In the Realm of the Basses." In this episode, Chuck's downward spiral continues with a bender in Bangkok and an incident at school, and we'll be introduced to his uncle, Jack Bass.

Then, on January 12, "Gone with the Will," Chuck finds out that as per Bart's will, he is now the CEO of Bass Industries. He also agrees to Jack becoming his legal guardian.

The January 19 episode, "You've Got Yale," means the Ivy League institution so sought after by Blair Waldorf and others will once again take center stage. Who will get in?

Gossip Girl Spinoff Rumors Nixed Again

Despite widespread buzz yesterday that a new show was in the works, it appears the latest round of Gossip Girl spinoff rumors are untrue, according to E! Online.

Yesterday's Star magazine article - which we noted did not cite any official confirmation by the Gossip Girl producers, nor did it contain any sources identified by name - reported that a young Lily and Rufus spinoff would begin filming in February.

Not the case.

Gossip Girl's producers and Warner Bros., the studio behind the series, now say, "Contrary to the rumors and false reports breaking in the tabloids, there is no approved concept and/or confirmation of a Gossip Girl spinoff at this time."

Lincoln Hawk

The Rufus-as-a-young-rocker concept was never meant as a series, but rather was a pitch for the show's upcoming Verizon-sponsored webisode series.

And as executive producer Josh Schwartz first revealed to me a little while back, that concept was scrapped in favor of the upcoming Dorota webisodes.

Gossip Girl spinoff rumors are nothing new.

There was talk last season that Taylor Momsen's Little Jenny Humphrey might be getting a series of her own called The It Girl, but that was also debunked by Schwartz this summer.

According to insider sources, the CW certainly would like to build on the success of its marquee series, but for now, Gossip Girl producers want to focus on maintaining the high-quality Upper East Side stories as we know them now.

Young Rufus-Lily Gossip GIrl Spinoff: Yay or Nay?

While still unconfirmed by the network itself, a planned Rufus and Lily spinoff - featuring younger versions of the star-crossed lovers - is supposedly being planned.

According to reports, the network will lay the groundwork for the new show beginning with a flashback sequence in an upcoming Gossip Girl episode in early 2009.

Rufus and Lily (Matthew Settle and Kelly Rutherford) certainly have great chemistry, and the idea of no original cast members leaving Gossip Girl is also appealing.

But would you watch a spinoff featuring younger versions of these characters? Would they be enough to sustain a hit series, or should the producers scrap the idea? Tell us what you think of the proposed spin-off in the informal survey below ...

Report: Gossip Girl Spinoff to Feature Young Rufus & Lily

The long-rumored Gossip Girl spinoff will apparently center around younger versions of the characters Lily and Rufus, according to a new report in Star.

“The show will focus on the early romance between Lily van der Woodsen and Rufus Humphrey,” an insider says of the future Gossip Girl spinoff.

“It begins when they first meet, during a time when Rufus and his band are at the height of their career. The show will follow the high society and rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle in New York.”

Rufus Humphrey, Lily van der Woodsen

None of the original Gossip Girl cast members will be leaving the show, says the insider: “two new actors will be hired to play the young Lily and Rufus."

Producers are reportedly planning to introduce the new, younger couple during a flashback scene in an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl this season.

No official announcement has been made, so for now this remains unconfirmed. But what do you think? Would you watch this Gossip Girl spin-off?
