The beautiful and talented cast of Gossip Girl.

On-screen, they are gorgeous, scheming, back-stabbing high schoolers. Off-screen… oh who are we kidding, they are still gorgeous. But fortunately, they’re somewhat kinder to one another.

“I assure you,” Badgley says, “we are all fun and charming as hell.”

Jessica Szohr plays Vanessa Abrams, the BFF of Gossip Girl leading man Dan Humphrey. Vanessa is Dan’s childhood best friend who has returned to New York, realizing that she is in love with Dan.

Naturally, this throws a wrench into Dan’s relationship with Upper East Side princess Serena van der Woodsen - but as we saw, perhaps there’s a new romance on the horizon for Vanessa, as well!

Jessica recently gave an interview with BuddyTV today and promised there will be much more in store for her as Gossip Girl continues. Here are some excerpts from the interview, with a link to the full story on Buddy …

Q: Maybe to catch people up on the show a bit, since it was on hiatus for a while, can you talk about what your character is like?

Jessica Szohr: I play a girl, Vanessa Abrams, from Brooklyn, who is Dan Humphrey’s (Penn Badgley) childhood best friend. And she moved away with her parents to Vermont and comes back and confessed her love to Dan Humphrey, and realizes that he is on a whole other page from when she left New York. And she came back and is working on a documentary, and has a job at this little cafe in Brooklyn. She doesn’t really understand or get the whole world of these Upper East Sider kids.

Q: Are you personally like Vanessa at all? Do you identify with her?

Jessica Szohr: I think out of all the characters on the show, personally, I could relate to Vanessa the most. I come from Wisconsin, so living in New York, and especially on the Upper East Side, is very different from where I grew up. Mostly, personally, I could relate to Vanessa, which is great because that’s who I’m playing.

A pair of cute Gossip Girl guest stars / regulars, Jessica Szohr and Michelle Trachtenberg, were spotted filming scenes on Vernon Boulevard in Queens on Thursday. Wonder what these two will be up to on the show!

Michelle plays newcomer Georgina Sparks, who we know has a link to Serena’s past. Jessica, of course, plays Vanessa - who has been tied to Dan’s past, but is possibly hooking up with Nate in a new episode!

It’s hard not to hate Jessica Szohr.

Okay, maybe it’s just hard not to hate her character, Vanessa.

After all, she keeps entering through Dan’s window at the most inopportune times - and we’ll take issue with anyone that dares to get in between the budding, cute relationship between Dan and Serena.

Szhor seems alright, however. She recently talked about Vanessa’s background, specifically her unique sense of fashion.

“In the book, Vanessa was very gothic, always in black, with piercings and when we started the show, they wanted to make her kind of Lower East Side … tight skinny jeans, high-tops, and things like that,” Szohr explained.

“I had just moved here so I wasn’t aware of the neighborhoods, so when I was doing homework for my character, I went to the Lower East Side.”

So, any Gossip Girl spoilers to dish, Jessica? What does the future hold for your character?

“I think Vanessa might get a boyfriend and I don’t know for a fact, but I think Dan might say, ‘I don’t want her to be with someone else,’” said Szohr.

Uh-oh. Does that mean the future isn’t so rosy for Dan and Serena?!?
