Matthew Settle is having problems with fatherhood on Gossip Girl as Rufus Humphrey, whose children, Dan and Jenny in particular, are proving to be handful.

But the actor is "thrilled" to be an expectant father in real life.

"I'm not ready. I don't think I'll ever be ready," he told People magazine at Tavern on the Green on Tuesday night. "But I'm thrilled."

Settle and his wife, model Naama Nativ, enjoyed a dinner to benefit the Tribeca Film Institute after attending a screening of Quantum of Solace.

"We're having a girl," added pregnant Nativ, who also was in You Don't Mess with the Zohan. "It's going amazingly. I love it. He's very happy, very excited."

In describing the feeling of being a first-time parent, the Gossip Girl star invoked one of Jack Nicholson's most memorable As Good As It Gets quotes.

"Before you have a child, everything is about you," Matthew Settle explained. "But my wife, and us having a child, makes me want to be a better man."

While art is known to imitate life, in this case, the dad-to-be claims that his character on Gossip Girl, Rufus, "is helping inform my real life."

But when it comes to picking a name for the baby, they are still undecided: "We're not sure yet ... we'll see," said Nativ. "I want Angelica."

A trio of well-dressed Gossip Girl stars enjoy a laugh!

One of the members of the Gossip Girl cast is getting ready for a baby in real life - and no, it's not Blake Lively or Leighton Meester.

Although he's a bit unlucky in love on Gossip Girl, Matthew Settle and his wife, actress-model Naama Nativ, are expecting their first child!

According to Life & Style Weekly, the actor shouted it from the rooftops at the EMM Group Estate in New York’s Hamptons on August 16.

“[Matthew Settle] was sitting on a golf cart with Naama waiting to be taken up the driveway to the Estate, and just blurted it out,” says a partygoer.

“He seemed so incredibly pumped about it, and Naama was glowing. Even though Matthew had to mingle with his cast-mates and the show’s producers during the party, he was so attentive to her. It was sweet.”

At an after-party for a screening of Step Brothers on the roof of the Empire Hotel in New York City, Matthew Settle, who plays the handsome Brooklyn Dad on Gossip Girl, spoke a little bit about his character - and his TV kids.

"Well, Rufus is probably going to run into some trouble with his daughter," he told the New York Observer. "The show is about kids finding their identities, and who they are. She begins to find hers through her designing."

"Jenny is going to have to choose between her trade and her schooling, for which Rufus has sacrificed so much."

Matthew Settle (Rufus Humphrey) is a handsome fella.

As for his male offspring?

"Oh, Dan gets a mentor. Jay McInerney will play him," Matthew Settle said.

Before Penn Badgley and Blake Lively were confirmed as a couple, Matthew Settle, who plays Penn Badgley's TV dad on Gossip Girl, helped to keep gossip about their relationship secret.

But now that it's out in the open, he says, "I think it's nice."

Settle offered fatherly insight about Penn Badgley and Blake Lively on his way to The CW upfront party at The Bowery Hotel in New York May 13, which the Gossip Girl cast attended.

Asked if he had advice for his Gossip Girl son, Matthew Settle answered simply, "In real life, Penn rolls with the punches better than anybody ... I don't think he needs any advice."

About keeping the relationship a secret before it was revealed, Penn's TV Dad said he didn't "want to be too intrusive. I made my own assumptions. But I didn't want to talk about it, to get involved."

When Gossip Girl star Matthew Settle was a teenager in Sevierville, Tenn., he rebelled by cranking up the radio when driving a church van.

"Part of that (driving) was to (give me the opportunity to) listen to rock music," says Settle, whose parents are conservative Christians who forbade him to listen to such songs. "The other reason was I just wanted to drive."

Matthew Settle has come a long way since those days. He can be seen in the role of former rock star-turned-New York art dealer Rufus Humphrey in the new CW hit series Gossip Girl, airing 9 p.m. Wednesdays.

The series, which began in September, has been a big hit in the Knoxville area, reports the Knoxville News-Sentinel. Most weeks, its audience here rivals those in major cities such as L.A., Chicago and New York.

The show centers on a group of beautiful high school students at a posh private school in Manhattan where reputation is everything, and their lives are often dramatic and documented often on a website run by a shadowy female figure simply known as Gossip Girl.

Matthew Settle's character, Rufus Humphrey, has two teen children at the academy. They're middle-class and don't quite fit into that world.

But Rufus Humphrey makes sure his kids, Dan and Jenny, don't fall victim to classmates' materialistic ways. There's no "do as I say, don't do as I do" stuff for Rufus. He's straight with the children, played by Taylor Momsen and Penn Badgley, about what to expect out of life.

Like his character's kids facing class struggles in the school setting of Gossip Girl, Matthew Settle has also been there and done that.
