Gossip Girl Round Table: "The Goodbye Gossip Girl"

While readers sound off in the Gossip Girl forum, it's Gossip Girl Insider's turn to analyze some of the burning questions, classic quotes and memorable moments from last night's episode, as is our staff's Tuesday afternoon custom.

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Round Table!

This week's hot Gossip Girl topics from "The Goodbye Gossip Girl" include memorable lines, Chair's declaration of love, the mysterious Scott, and predictions for Season 3 ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
DANdy: This goes to Dan, for the most irrational diss of the night, as he breaks off a friendship with Serena by asking: "When you think about it, what's really keeping us together?"
Gossip Guy: Call me sappy but I loved the Chair exchange at the end where Blair asked him to say I love you a second time. They were so damn cute together!
Mister Meester: The scene at the end was obviously terrific, but I loved these two earlier Chair exchanges: 1. Blair: "We need to talk". Chuck: "I prefer to talk after." 2. Blair: "I haven't seen you in awhile." Chuck: "Have you been looking?"
gg-rt.jpg
2. What took you by surprise the most last night?
DANdy: The use of Gossip Girl as an actual character. It didn't really work for me. I'd prefer if the show simply used Gossip Girl as an anonymous, unique sort of narrator. The anti-Meredith Grey, if you will. Leave her alone, Serena, and just focus on your next, revealing outfit.
Mister Meester: Vanessa going to NYU came out of nowhere, though I guess they had to keep her around somehow. Georgina's unexplained caper-solving and enrollment at that same school came as a bit of a surprise, too.
Gossip Guy: Chuck returning from his European adventure with gifts for Blair! OMG. Though Georgina going to NYU and requesting Blair has her roommate? Pretty phenomenal.
Gossip Girl Round Table: "Valley Girls"
You've sounded off in our Gossip Girl forum at great length. Now it's the Gossip Girl Insider staff's turn to come together and analyze the burning questions, classic quotes and memorable moments from last night's episode, as is our Tuesday custom.
Welcome to the Gossip Girl Round Table!
This week's hot Gossip Girl topics from "Valley Girls" include memorable lines, the pros and cons of '80s Lily, Nair's breakup, Derena's future and next week's finale ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: Carol's reference to a music video as equating to "national exposure [and] the birth of a new art form." This was true for awhile on MTV, but the network then killed the music video in favor of people such as Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. I blame you for their existence, Carol.

Gossip Guy: Can I actually go with the whole exchange of Dorota bringing the dress to Blair instead of a quote? I guess if we had to limit it to just a quote, I'll go with the "This body bag, corpse not pretty" as she held up the dry cleaning bag.

Mister Meester: I love my celebrity gossip, so it's gotta be Blair's observation that "Serena's been in jail for four hours, she's already served more time than Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie combined!" She must think these up in advance.

gg-rt.jpg

2. Did Blair break up with Nate for the right reasons?

DANdy: Yes. There are always three acceptable reasons for a break up: infidelity; a sex change; and clearly being in love with your boyfriend's BFF.

Mister Meester: While I agree with Gossip Girl that our queen was with the wrong king up on that stage, it still seemed a little sudden and forced to me. Nate received virtually no explanation, nor did he ask for one. Perhaps without devoting half the episode to flashbacks, this could have been developed better.

Gossip Guy:  No. The right reasons were because he's not Chuck, but at least she made the choice in the end.

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: Georgina's episode-ending proclaimation to Blair: "You can tell Jesus that the bitch is back." Wow. We can't wait to see what the bitch does next week!

Gossip Guy: I loved that the old Blair was back in this episode. I loved when she summed up Georgina's new life: "that is a Carrie Underwood song, not a life choice!"

Mister Meester: This early exchange: Georgina: "The Lord cannot enter the body solely by alcohol." Chuck: That's good, because I prefer to be the one doing the entering." Georgina: "To each his own holy water." These two are great.

gg-rt.jpg

2. How are you liking the Gabriel-Poppy financial caper story line?

DANdy: It was getting a little old, that is until Poppy escaping amid Serena's arrest offered a new twist. Now Georgina's on the case while Nate, Blair, and Chuck are joining forces to take Poppy and Gabriel down? I love it!

Mister Meester: Once you get past the absurdity - serious timeline plot holes, Lily sending Rufus dividends the very next day, that moron Poppy pulling off such a scheme in general - I do find it pretty compelling. Just gloss over some of the financial details and appreciate the characters ... it brought us back Georgina, right?

Gossip Guy: Let's leave the crime capers to professionals like Danny Ocean. Did we really need to drag this on for two whole episodes, and what it looks like a third?

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: When Gabriel asks Poppy what the hell Butter is. Ha! Like anyone well-connected in New York City would not be familiar with this popular hot spot, owned by Paula Abdul's ex-boyfriend, JT Torregiani.

Gossip Guy: It may be the Chair fan in me, but I got all giddy through the whole scene where Chuck and Blair met up while she was spying. We'll give the best quote to Chuck Bass for noticing the beret and immediately asking who she's spying on.

Mister Meester: This week was a tie for me. First, Gabriel telling Poppy, "Serena didn't steal me. She swept me away." Awful. No self-respecting dude would say that, even in the midst of an investment scam. Second, I was wondering how Blair could possibly know Gabriel's story was bogus when she said: "I know for a fact Butter was closed that night because I used their bartender for the Nelly Yuki SAT sabotage party!" Genius.

gg-rt.jpg

2. Best fashion moment of the night - Chuck's basketball attire, Serena's "dress" at the co-op party, or the "OMJC" shirts at Georgina's camp?

DANdy: Gotta go with Serena's "dress." I liked how it drew attention to her "giant boobs."

Mister Meester: OMJC was a hilarious touch, but you gotta go with Serena wearing lingerie to an upscale party. Also great? After trying that cleavage-baring undershirt dress on, she opted for another, but Blair made her change back.

Gossip Guy: Oh this is an easy one, definitely Chuck's basketball uniform. A close second is his purple bowtie he wore with a pink shirt.

Gossip Girl Round Table: "Seder Anything"

As fans gather in our Gossip Girl forum to sound off on last night's episode and what's coming up next, the Gossip Girl Insider staff comes together every Tuesday to analyze burning questions, classic quotes and memorable moments.

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Round Table!

Topics from "Seder Anything" include memorable lines, curious plot holes, Jewish humor, Nate's future, the changing Blair and the mysterious Gabriel ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
DANdy: Blair's "I'm one of the Chosen Ones. I was wandering the Bassian desert, and I've reached the Vanderbilt Promised Land." Great for yet another use of Chuck's name, and also for the episode's (and Passover's) theme of redemption.
Gossip Guy: In a rare first move, I want to give it to Jenny for standing up to Chuck so much this episode. Especially when she told him that "The only human contact that you don't pay for is the people in this house." Harsh and true!
Mister Meester: I loved how, when he Nate was breaking up with Blair, he recounted aloud the events of the past hour. All of the twists, turns, lies and schemes do get a bit confusing, even for the characters themselves. Vintage Gossip Girl.
gg-rt.jpg
2. In honor of Josh Schwartz and two-thirds of our panel, what was the best Jewish humor-related part of the episode?
DANdy: The "Schmutz Happens" apron. 'Nuff said.
Mister Meester: Pretty much any line by Cyrus. He is hilarious. They need to put Wallace Shawn on retainer. With Cyrus and Dorota, Gossip Girl has a couple of great random, supporting characters to inject comic relief once in awhile.
Gossip Guy: Well thank you for this great honor. Really, the whole seder and its many interruptions was fantastic. I think my favorite part was everyone going for the sip of the wine before the blessing. Been there, done that. Though, technically they couldn't have even poured it before the seder begins since pouring of the glass is part of it. Where was your Jewish consultant? I'm available for free if you fly me out to the set.
Gossip Girl Round Table: "Remains of the J"
As fans gather in our Gossip Girl forum to sound off on any and all topics, the Gossip Girl Insider staff comes together to analyze burning questions, classic quotes and memorable moments from each episode of our favorite show.
Welcome to the Gossip Girl Round Table!
Topics from "Remains of the J" include memorable quotes, Jenny's birthday party, Nate and Blair's spark, Vanessa and Chuck, and Dan's mysterious half-brother ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: Vanessa, displaying her adorable innocence to Chuck: "I came to you because I wanted to do something besides feel sorry for myself, but all it's been has been sleazy platitudes and you staring at my boobs."

Gossip Guy: As much as the idea of anyone sleeping with Vanessa sickens me, I love when Vanessa is disgusted by Chuck's idea to leak a sex tape and his response is "we don't have to leak the tape if you don't want to."

Mister Meester: Tie between V's "it's just physical" (snap, Nate!) and Dorota's theory on Nate running late: "Maybe girl from Brooklyn cry ... Mr. Nate nice boy, he wipe tears, he touch her hair, she touch his ... not that this ever happen to me." LOL.

gg-rt.jpg

2. Favorite failed Kelly Rutherford pregnancy-concealing device: flowy orange top, sitting awkwardly with knees on sofa, or standing far away with huge coat in the lobby?

DANdy: What about hiding behind a pot of chili? Rutherford is just lucky Rufus' specialty involves the only cookware larger than her baby bump.

Mister Meester: The other stuff was subtle enough, but the full-on (bright orange no less) maternity top Lily wore at breakfast? Way to call attention to the pregnancy.

Gossip Guy: Definitely her awkwardly sitting on the sofa. The producers either need to get better at this, or take a note from How I Met Your Mother where they even make on-screen jokes about Alyson Hannigan's baby bump via a hot dog eating contest.

Gossip Girl Round Table: "The Grandfather"

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!

As fans gather in our Gossip Girl forum, our staff writers gather to analyze the burning questions, classic quotes and memorable moments from each episode.

Topics from "The Grandfather" include memorable quotes, Lily's past, poor Vanessa, Chuck's quandary, and what's up next for Nair and Chair ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
DANdy: When Carter referred to Chuck as the "Bass cop." The pun itself was atrocious, but gotta admire the guy for trying.
Gossip Guy: I think I have to give this one for Dan when he asks Vanessa, "do you think the Humphreys have a crest that Jenny could sew onto one of my cardigans?"
Mister Meester: I enjoyed Vanessa's lamenting to Dan and Jenny about Nate: "We broke up. Well, we didn't actually break up, we just ... it is what it is." A perfect summation, as none of us know how to describe their relationship either. I also loved this exchange: Serena: "Chuck, she's embarrassed, so we've gotta give her time to lick her wounds." Chuck: "Maybe I could lick them for her." I don't even know what that's supposed to mean from a sexual standpoint, but you knew he was gonna go there.
gg-rt.jpg
2. Will the past continue to be an issue for Lily and Rufus?
DANdy: Maybe. I just don't feel like I know enough about Lily's past to form an opinion yet. If only there were some upcoming TV show that would shed more light on it...
Mister Meester: I don't know, but if this was a Lost spoilers-style flash forward of sorts, setting us up for some of Lily's past trysts as shown on the Gossip Girl spinoff, kudos to Josh Schwartz & Co. I cannot wait to see an impressionable young L (Brittany Snow) getting trashed backstage at Nine Inch Nails and Guns n' Roses concerts.
Gossip Guy: I'm not sure which part of their past I'm shocked about, the rock star Rufus' numbers being so low or Lily van der Woodsen always being alluded to as such a slut yet only have two pages of names. I was expecting a novel. But to answer your question, no way. Rufus is too calm and collected.
Gossip Girl Round Table: "The Age of Dissonance"
As fans venture to our Gossip Girl forum to discuss their favorite couples and story lines, our staff writers gather each week to analyze the burning questions, classic quotes and other memorable moments from the greatest show on TV.
Welcome to the Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!
Topics from "The Age of Dissonance" include memorable quotes, plot holes, characters bidding farewell, the new Blair, and her multiple suitors ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: Nate referring to Julian as an "asshat." Accurate, and great timing.

Mister Meester: After Dan has his epiphany about Rachel and tells Blair, casually, that he banged her in the costume closet. Do what you want with that. Classic Dan.

Gossip Guy: I'm actually going to give this one to the beautiful Nate. I think when he slicks his man bangs away from his eyes, he's able to deliver some killer lines like his cheap shot at Jeremy Piven of Entourage with "should have gone with mercury poisoning."

gg-rt.jpg

2. Will the revelation that people hate and are out to get her transform the Blair Waldorf we know and love? What will be her next move?

DANdy: Hopefully bringing back the Nelly Yuki Project. I want to know what that was, and even if she personally didn't take Blair down, that girl needs to get hers.

Mister Meester: If you thought old Blair spoke her mind, the new Blair - minor Gossip Girl spoiler alert - is really not going to hold back. Even at Nate's family reunion. She'll also be locking lips with more than one person next week alone ...

Gossip Guy: I kind of assumed Blair Waldorf always ruled her empire with the idea that everyone hated her... so I would assume this will only make her stronger!

Gossip Girl Round Table: "Carrnal Knowledge"

As fans venture to our Gossip Girl forum to discuss their favorite couples and story lines, our staff writers gather each week to analyze the burning questions, classic quotes and other memorable moments from the greatest show on TV.

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!

Topics from "Carrnal Knowledge" include memorable quotes, the next step for Chair, Nate and Vanessa, and when we will finally meet the mysterious Andrew ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
DANdy: Blair's motivating speech to her minions: "What we do here today echoes through eternity. Who's with me?" Move over, William Wallace!
Mister Meester: A tie between Blair's claim that she "befriended a family of squirrels" and Nelly Yuki immediately clamoring for a contraband phone to "check the Dow." We'd have pegged Nelly for a NASDAQ investor, but point taken.
Gossip Guy: I totally have to give to my boy Dan for when he called Jenny out on her old makeup with, "I'm glad you're not wearing that raccoon makeup anymore, because you looked like one of the Incredibles." It may be my ego, but I like to think the Gossip Girl writers are reading our site and giving us little inside jokes. We appreciate it.
gg-rt.jpg
2. Nate and Vanessa: Kind of cute, totally useless or both?
DANdy: Totally useFUL... if this had been an hour-long infomercial for dental hygiene. The couple spent more time laughing over one-liners less funny than season five Entourage quotes than they did talking.
Mister Meester: A little of both. I don't hate them on principle like some people I know, but these two are trying way too hard to be this perfect, cute, funny happy-go-lucky couple. Tone it down. You're not making anyone green with NV.
Gossip Guy: Totally useless. Personally I thought Nate was being cute with the little joke of sending the mask, but I think when you send it to Vanessa all humor and cuteness instantly convert to uselessness. And from the Gossip Girl spoilers I've read, you're wasting your efforts on this little hussy. Please, Vanessa. Like you could do better than Nate.
Welcome to the Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!
Topics from "You've Got Yale" include memorable quotes, the next step for Chair, Nate and Vanessa, and when we will finally meet the mysterious Andrew ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: Courtesy of Blair Waldorf: "Cancel the Nelly Yuki project now!" I just found the name for my new band.

Mister Meester: Of Chuck's plan to oust Jack via plane crash, Lily says the company jet is very expensive. Chuck's reply? "There's insurance." Awesome that Lily's first concern was the financial fallout from idea #26, and that Chuck already thought of it.

Gossip Guy: Wow, hands down, no one made me laugh as loud as Eric's reaction to when he saw Lily and Rufus making out. "I would say 'get a room,' but yours is right above mine. Please try to remember that." Amazing.

gg-rt.jpg

2. Did you like the mostly lighter feel of this episode?

DANdy: Not when it involves an utter lack of Blair and Chuck interaction. Chuck may not be on his deathbed any longer, but I miss him teasing Blair in her sleeping one.

Mister Meester: I enjoyed the return to more traditional high school topics like college admissions, albeit with a uniquely Gossip Girl twist. If people were hooking up, being blackmailed or killed off in every episode, well, we'd have The OC.

Gossip Guy: Well, I'm not sure how light you can consider an episode that has the subject of rape, but other than that I did enjoy the episode being a little goofier than the recent dark episodes. I loved seeing Blair's reaction and war being handled in the way Gossip Girl should, in a light-hearted way.
